Thanks for the information Cosmo and 767jetz. It sounds as if there is momentum in the right direction and it will prove interesting to see what the August results are going to be.
It seems as if Mr. Tilton is slowly building his senior management team. What I found interesting about this was that it seems that United was able to pull a few of these executives away from American Airlines. It would seem rather strange would it not for execs to leave American for United if they were not 100% confident in Mr. Tilton's plan?
I have heard that United has gone on the offensive with an aderstising campaign and at least is tackling the revenue problem and not relying solely on cost cuts. What revenue is there to be generated in this market? I certainly am not sure but it seems to be a wise path to follow to vigorously compete for those customers that are available. When the economy finally turns, these passangers will already "be in place' so to speak. As a side note, United has always adverstised well in England. Is it possible that against all naysayers' prognostications that Mr. Tilton is actually quite capable of running an airline and is, thank you very much, in the process of doing so? It will be interesting to see where the leases all fall.
We often hear the maxim that "nothing succeeds like success." Although it is sounds trite at first I believe there is a lot of truth in it. 767jetz's attitude seems to well reflect the desire for employees to play in a winning team. This is where I would disagree with Borescope. Although one cannot let the stress affect the life and one must not fret over the uncontrollables, it is another thing to have a passion for your work and assiduously follow the trends. From my observations it seems as if the industry attracts staff who often grew up with airliners in their blood. This passion is reflefcted in their thrist for knowledge. Of course few if any on this board are privy to the boardroom. In fact, not to stir a sleeping dog, but that is the trouble that I had with a certain Airways' poster claiming executive access and knowledge. But! I stated a few weeks ago that solid observership can often be uncannily accurate and I look forward to the future to see how those of us on this board did in our seer ablilities. It is one thing to look blindly into the future, but many on this board attempt a rational (though often to the disagreement of others) stab at following the trends. I for one do not find this a worthless exercise but rather a reflexion of those who have an interest and in the case of the employees, a direct stake in events.
Cheers
