Here an update on negotiations.This is what the company is proposing.

Increase monthly max by as much as 18hrs.

Reduce vacation.

Increase per diem by 15 cents.While eliminating it for turn arounds

Triple your contributions to health care costs.

Require a 25% funding by retired Flight Attendants toward their health care benefits before age 65,increasing to 100% of post-medicare costs after age 65.

Eliminate pension plan for new hires.
 
Let the games begin. Deja vu to 1993. A concessionary contract, a crappy economy and the company losing money. How will things turn out this time?
 
The no pension for new hires thing is expected. Companies started doing this years ago. I believe IBM was one of the first large corporations to make the change.

The rest sounds pretty standard for a company that is bleeding cash with little hope of a turnaround in the short-term. This is doubly true because the two main factors in any turn around (economic recovery and fuel prices) are beyond the company's control.

Good luck negotiating...
 
No raise in pay. Seems pay rates were not even mentioned in the company's proposal. We have to pay for those bonusses somehow. (Well, the rest of you do. I'm probably being furloughed 30Sep.)
 
What happened to "Restore & More" and "May Day Is Pay Day"? What year of May is Laura talking about?

APFA is not unified like they were in 93. CHAOS is going to be a joke. With f/a's being furloughed and those of us who are still on the recall list; do you honestly think we are going to be Unified? Do you think the soon to be furloughed which will go into the original hired f/a's will be supportive? Me thinks NOT.

I think it was short sighted of ALL of the unions on the property not to sign extensions in the range of 3-5 years with the following provisions. 1. COLA every Jan., not to be used in any negotiations to offset future raises. 2. No corporate bonus payments until all unions sign new agreements. Labor peace, some relief, and the end of seeing employee job loss fund the on going bonus plan.

If AA is in that dire financial trouble bonuses are inappropriate to begin with..

I agree that new hires will not have a defined benefit plan. But what is the offer to replace? A 401K? At what % of contribution match? Unfortunately there is only the inflammatory wording presented. Too little information. What else was offered? Return of furlough pay? Unlimited recall? Why would AA think the layover expenses would be less for a f/a? Pilots receive crew meals in-flight, f/as do not. If anything, f/as should receive more.

The timimg of this release is very suspect. Is the APFA fearful of unity within the ranks? This seem more of an attempt to inflame than to provide solid information.
 
Nancy is spot on. Trying to extract raises and restore pay and work rules in this economy is very short sighted. I am sure to some point the APFA feels the pressure, but those who feel there is a chance are living under a rock or in a dream world.
 
I am not surprised.

When the time comes that there is a T/A reached and we dont have 98 hr lines and TAFB for T/As etc..with little or no pay increases, AA expects a collective ...phew...from the F/As and for an agreement to be signed.

Its negotiations 101 folks....As said before regarding this issue. " dont go chasing rabbits in the field"

When the games are done being played we will see what is offered and go from there.
 
True, but openers also give you an idea of just how hard the ball will be when hardball is played. I don't think any f/a is going to be remotely happy with the TA when it is produced. Relieved, maybe. Happy, no.

Also, don't expect a TA anytime soon. The company likes working under the current RPA concessions just fine. And, the RLA works beautifully for them to stall agreement for as long as possible.
 
Once again, ladies and gentlemen, board procedures have changed. Posts that serve no purpose other than to comment on/criticize/attack another member will be deleted without further comment. Time off may be given based on the severity/frequency of the attacking post. A word to the wise.

That would have been wonderful, but I think it would have been a cold day in heck before AA would ever had agreed to an extension under those terms. They save more money in the long run simply by stalling and if you think the BOD at AA is going to agree to forgo bonuses, well that would be slim to none.

I agree with you 100%. It is truly unfortunate that these are the circumstances, but we all have to live with the cards this economy has delt us. Restore rhetoric may make us all feel better and give us something to hope for, but will get us nowhere in the long run.
