Arpey is not the only one to go, he is just the beginning. Who is next on the chopping block from the "talent" pool. Previous BK ruling's have shown a thinning out of executives, so with this in mind, who's next. How about level 3 and up manager's?

My first offering would be Tom Devalue to be replaced by Bob GlAAizer. Why?? Horton gives a hoot, that's why. Some where there will need to be a "bridge" between employee's and the BK mess. Bob could act as the global warming between the frigid employee's and the arctic AA management team. I think Tom's gone. Just my thought s .........

Let's see a show of hands and see who wants to go with Arpey's new investment gig and put their money where Arpey's mouth is?

according to some sources, Arpey can't begin receiving his retirement for a couple more years so it's not entirely unexpected that if he stepped down from AA, he had to find another job.

Hell, do that, and I'd consider coming back. Bob's one of the better people I've worked for at AA.

<_< ------ Or lower his standard of living for a few years! 😉

He's only 52, and early retirement isn't possible until 55. I seriously doubt he *had* to find another job. I saw his house in Southlake, and it was fairly modest even by AMR executive standards. He no doubt lost a lot on his stock holdings, but probably wouldn't have been holding up a cardboard sign on Stemmons anytime soon. I'm sure there are a few execs there who need to work, but Gerard doesn't seem like the type who wouldn't be saving for a rainy day.

The company he's going to was created by Larry Kellner, former CEO of Continental and Gordon's right hand. From people who know both of them, Larry and Gerard have very similar personalities

More importantly, Emerald Creek doesn't appear to invest any of its money in airlines.

"I've never invested in any airline", "it's a good place to work(used to be), and they perform an important function in the nation"..."but no, I've never invested in the airline industry".- Robert Crandall

It is doubtful we will ever get the full story on Arpey's golden parachute, SERP, and enhancements to his retirement package. You know, things like doubling his seniority credit, waiving the actuarial reduction for early retirement. At lest not until the end of the fiscal year and AAL's delay of releasing the information.

Remember with TWA ( and all the other also) the big boys all got more money! The company well say they need to do this so they don't leave! LOL
Part of the bankruptcy law changes of 2005 changed that somewhat. Supposedly, an executive wanting a bonus has to both convince the judge he/she is actually as valuable as thought and a real job offer be in hand for the exec to take if he/she isn't retained via an obscene failure bonus.

How this will pan out and be applied in the real world is anyone's guess but we'll literally have front row seating to watch.

No, it looks like the story is pretty clear. He resigned, no severance other than what he was already entitled to at retirement, which is the same as anyone else who resigns before age 55... his pension. Same thing Carty got, same thing I got.

Not sure why everyone is looking for the great conspiracy on this one. Sometimes things really are as simple as they appear.
