What's new

Atheism

god bless you - no other phrase for it as far as I'm aware

oh my god her dress looks like a sausage skin - OH crap, look at that dress

Jesus Christ billy... - god damn billy take a shower .. you smell like a sewer.

Never really understood the issue with the last one. Not sure how using JC name in the description makes it OK but saying god damn is bad. Seems to demean both either way but I guess the religious will always find a way to justify their ways and condemn the ways of others.

So Galleo was not placed under house arrest for his beliefs? I am pretty sure rhe church was not supporting his research.

(You were probably thinking of that gallon of Gallo on your TV dinner table when you posted... JMHO) 😉

"Galileo" was a Christian and died a Christian.

Galileo Galilei (Italian pronunciation: [ɡaliˈlɛːo ɡaliˈlɛi]; 15 February 1564[4] – 8 January 1642),commonly known as Galileo, was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. His achievements include improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations, and support for Copernicanism. Galileo has been called the "father of modern observational astronomy",the "father of modern physics", the "father of science", and "the Father of Modern Science". Stephen Hawking says, "Galileo, perhaps more than any other single person, was responsible for the birth of modern science."

Church didn't like it but he never gave up. His 'faith' was stronger... B)

From your own link.

"Galileo was found "vehemently suspect of heresy", namely of having held the opinions that the Sun lies motionless at the centre of the universe, that the Earth is not at its centre and moves, and that one may hold and defend an opinion as probable after it has been declared contrary to Holy Scripture. He was required to "abjure, curse and detest" those opinions.

He was sentenced to formal imprisonment at the pleasure of the Inquisition. On the following day this was commuted to house arrest, which he remained under for the rest of his life.

His offending Dialogue was banned; and in an action not announced at the trial, publication of any of his works was forbidden, including any he might write in the future."

It took hundrerds of years before the church decided it may have been a mistake.

Yep, I read it.
What's your point?
Was he an atheist? Or did you miss the original post?

That was the liberal interpretation that the Earth is the center of the universe and is the how and why liberal thinking has fallen on those lines over the years, making that the universe revolves them and their views.

Seems that he was a far better scientist than he was christian.

I think the biggest problem with religion and faith is the dogmatic belive they they are riht and infalable. Science has no problem saying oops. We were wrong... According to new evidence and scientific theory we now believe this... Religion says his is it and no evidence fo the contrary will change our mind. It is an absolute. Seems like they have been absolutely wrong on a host of issues.

Makes one think of the fake GW info........remember the hockey stick you liked so much?

Religion depends much upon faith and archeology offers proof that the written word was correct. Not always, but religion has to change when evidence is there contradicting it. What you speak of was in the early days of scientific development. There was nothing other than religion to offer explanation, but that changed and science and religion adapted. So whats your point?
I don't remember a sermon on a flat earth or 6000 year old planet ever.....except back in Galileo's day.....maybe you ought to go to a sermon and see for your self its changed a little since the days of Galileo and Copernicus.

The liberals ran the Catholic church in the 1600s?

Those guys are behind every tree.

Almost as omniscient as the Muslims and the Communiss.

LOL....Dog, your nose must be clogged......The insane thinking that came from the religious doctrine back then said the church had an answer for everything then as progressive liberals do now.....Duh.

So creationism/ID does not believe that dinosaurs and man walked together, the earth is only 6,000 years old? It does not profess that all species are as they always were with out evolution?

Religion has fought science at every turn. It took them over half a century to admit the earth was not the center of the universe. Religion will still not admit to the science of the earths origin. They still will not accept the science of evolution even though the supporting evidence is over whelming. They deny the scientific evidence to the origins of man. Religion is stuck in the stone ages.

Since when does religion adapt? Religion cannot adapt. The bible is either right or it's not. The second any religion contradicts anything in the bible it's game over. The bible is supposed to be the word of an omniscient infallible god. Adaptation does work with that scenario.

Evolution and Darwin are BS.
We were put here.
Explain Homosapien and the missing link?

Religion already admitted to the Earth's origin.

In the beginning God (your God) created ("endowed by the creator",samo samo) the heaven and the earth....Science says some 4 billion, so it must when the old guy pulled the pin.

Out of darkness came light........(big bang) some 4 billion give or take....LOL

You prove you still in the dark ages....LOL....LOL....LOL

One of the things I've always found interesting with atheists is the concept of morals, values & ethics.

Think about it, you grow up in a society whose laws and social mores are taken from the teachings of a man who is supposed to be the Son of God, yet God to you doesn't exist. Where did you learn that killing was wrong? Science didn't prove that, a value system based upon the existence of God taught you.

Also have you ever pondered that what others call God might just be a member of a superior race of beings. Could it be that this whole thing called Earth & the Solar System just be some 8th grade science project?
