Well not a huge surprise…it was always going to be axed at some point but its now official…Atlanta to Edinburgh has been axed.

Apparently it will be replaced with a New York JFK-Glasgow service in 2008.…anyone know more about this?

What eqpt do they run?

I think the 763 is too much capacity. A 752W would work - does it have the range, though? JFK makes more sense anyway.

Nothing on the Delta site regarding EDI-JFK....looks like EDI has been conpletly axed 🙂 .

EDI-JFK did come from the Scotsman newspaper....take it from a Scotsman....dont belive a word you read in that rag......I wouldnt wipe my dogs ass with that paper.

Except for a DL spokesman saying they would fly EDI-JFK. It was also released internally to DL employees that DL will fly EDI-JFK with the "new" 757's coming online.

The 10 757s Delta is getting that were TWA birds certainly have the range. TWA used to fly them JFK-LIS and also HNL-STL (the outbound on that trip required a tech stop in LAX for fuel...ns return).

It is actually 17 757's from AA and 2 from the same leasing company. all etops currently good for 120 min.later for 180 min. . That will allow them to fly hnl and maui.

No, I mean ATL - UK - do the -57s have the range?

I didn't know AA was giving up some 757s - why?????

Several months ago, AA announced that it was going to return the ex-TWA 757s (all P&W-powered, AA's 125 native 757s are all RR-powered) to the lessors to cut costs as it is very expensive to maintain such a small subfleet of airplanes with differenct powerplants.

AA's plan in 2001 when it acquired TWA was to order new 757s to replace these - but the events of late 2001 and the subsequent economic meltdown at AA interferred with those plans.

As they are compatible with DL's other 757s, it makes perfect sense for DL to lease them. They help replace some of the capacity lost when DL grounded the 762s.

The 757's aren't replacing the 762's. DL's 762's were almost solely domestic aircraft. The 757's DL is getting from AA will be used primarily for thin international routes.

actualy you are both right. when the new network people came on board they did not know that the 762's had been sold. they had plans to use them for those routes that the 757's are going to fly.they did not want to give up the seats. previous marketing people could not think of a use for those aircraft other then domestic.

It actually made me shed a tear. My first 767 flight was a DL -200. Delta tossed me a baggie of food as I boarded too 🙂

Anyway, makes sense. Maintaining PW AND RR plants is expensive. Good for DL for picking up these great birds.

Hoping the pond in the -57 is not bad at all. I remember hearing gripes that wide bodies should be exclusive for European runs.

f-96 ATL-EDI took a diversion through BOS last night. Pilot had a heart attack. Anyone know how the he's doing?
