Bad Weather Forecast In the Northeast

No, your response is insensitive.

As a customer, I would like helpful information, not "spin". I am trying to support "your" company, not run it down. If you cannot help me, I will go elsewhere.

What is wrong with (apparent) PHX people? After years of Franke, responders here seem to act like abused spouses.......even to blaming themselves for their partners pathologies. Is that how you deal with your lack of professionalism, blame the client but not your partner (mgt)?
First, Richard my apologies if I was off target but I have always tried to help whenever possible. Past posts are proof of that. Cant remember how many pms's I had when the DM/FFD accounts were merged and preferred couldnt access accounts. I went in on my day off with account info trying to get things straightened out for some. Sometimes you feel like nothing you try to help with is appreciated, only thrown back in your face. As a matter of fact on another board I just helped some Silver preferred with some fons. Sorry for being off topic but weather is a tough subject to deal with for everyone. Mama

Bob, I know how much you respect the front lines and you never hesitate to let us know we are appreciated. I also understand your frustrations. As per the above posts, we are all dealing these issues and your frustrations are ours. Now that we all know we are on the same side lets hope the weather doesnt ruin OUR hard work. With much affection and understanding, Mama.

Well, when I finally turned in last night, It was still clear outside and the temperature wasn't too bad (mid 20's). This morning was quite different. Quite a bit of precipitation in the form of snow and freezing rain at my house. Lots of action on the police/fire frequencies, and the NWS here in Pittsburgh had already activated the SkyWarn network for ham operators to report conditions to the Moon Township office from areas around the city.

My son had the day off, my wife's office closed early and I was fortunate to be off today. I'm hoping to hear how conditions were at the airport later this evening. The local news is not the best source, since they don't have to try to get passengers and planes off the ground.

I'll post some more after I talk to some of my friends who actually made it through the day.

To everyone systemwide: Good luck!

I haven't noticed any particular delays at PIT on the FAA site all day. Obviously, there'd be deicing to slow departures up a little, but that's a "normal" delay.

Looks like the only delays would be delays elsewhere trickling down to PIT by making the flights late.

FWIW, PHL is now the only major NE airport reporting significant inbound delays - still averaging 6 hours.

An excellent day to enjoy retirement .....

Believe me, you are quite the envy of many today, Jim.

It's too bad I'm not in today. I love running around out on the ramp with ice grippers on my shoes. You can move faster than a tug with those on your feet. You just have to take them off inside, otherwise everyone finds out just how ungraceful you can be.

The NWS just extended the winter storm warning for another 24 hours here in Pittsburgh (until 6pm February 14) Looks like date night is out for the holiday. Oh, well...at least I can get a jump on the shoveling this...evening......oh! look who just shoveled the walk.

My wife is surprising. Hope she doesn't kill me.

PIT seems to be doing okay, despite all the snow and being down two runways (10L/28R and 14/32 are closed).

PHL looks like it has a ways to go. Good luck if you're flying in there today (or tomorrow for that matter).

Sorry about the off-topic response about spousal abuse but, re-read your own reply above.....classic.

The weather is not a tough subject, unless one makes inadequate plans for it. I am reminded of a wintry morning in LGA, they drained the planes of water for the overnight but parked the water truck outside resulting in no coffee for the morning LGA-CLT, so they say. Dang, I hate that, the lack of coffee in the morning.

BTW, are they using the de-ice booms or are they using spray trucks at PHL west?

and Piney, driving an Audi. Business must be good!

I seen that delay for PHL on the FAA site. I was tracking a few planes, A few landed close to normal time, a few got diverted temporary. There has to be a ton of cancellations and more yet to come. I see AWI3909 just returned to PHL.

For those who have to Travel, Please have a safe journey.

I guess Im lost. Im sure what you mean. Please explain as I am open to suggestions. I will beg to differ with you when it comes to weather being difficult for everyone. Do you think passengers that live far from the ato find it so easy to manipulate on the highways? They miss flights from not leaving early enough or traffic accidents. Who do you think they call and yell at when you advise them that the rest of the flights are full or that we wont hold an aircraft for them and they have important business to handle? If its not the fon agents its ato that are dealing with these frustrated customers and what about Late Arriving Equipment, whose fault is it that passengers are misconnecting? And if they should have to stay overnight in a hub city who do you think they think should pay for their hotel? AND expect a voucher!!! Yes, maybe US should be better prepared in some areas, honestly I dont know everything about the operation, in fact, probably only a small percentage but IMHO weather is difficult. By the way, this board is not my job. Anything that anyone offers to do is strictly a favor. Most of us go out of our way to help others not only here but when working also. Regards,Mama

I just received a call from Co workers flying from PHL to PHX on HP. The flight was delayed by about 3 hours first thing this morning due to the weather, then had to refuel, while they were at the gate 5 passengers were asked to get off because of weight restrictions, in flight they ran out of water for the lavs and also ran out of food. ...Glad I stayed home 🙂

I work for free with a few volunteer agencies also.

It does not pay the bills, however.

In keeping with the wx topic, suppose you were a de-icer. and what if you were asked to come in to "help out". You and I would likely do it, I, once or twice.

But, what if it became a regular thing? What if management was counting on you coming in for free on your days off, because you are a good person, and mgt wanted to save money by not hiring enough de-icers?

and what if on one of those days you made a mistake and damaged an aircraft? You are working for free and they want to ding your pay for your mistake. What do you do?

I don't know about unions, per se, but it seems you are creating a situation where you are likely being taken advantage of. Perhaps that is OK for you. But, what about the next person? Are you so desperate for a job that you are willing to sell yourself that way?

I've seen abused spouses that would make up almost any excuse to continue a relationship, as bad as it might be. Perhaps it is time you quit covering for mgt. ineptitude and start standing up for your obviously excellent qualifications.

Just sayin'

Could a person work without being on the clock? I thought insurance wouldn't allow something like that.
