Why is that a surprise?

You don't just put together a filing like this overnight. Someone had to create the delta.com website on the filing, too.

Struggling companies will do this just in case and then not file. It's called contingency planning. But I think Delta saw the writing on the wall.

I agree. So a paralegal spent $10 to reserve a domain name in August, 2004. Big deal. I'm a little surprised that it isn't dated 2002 or 2003, since a DL bankruptcy has been a very real possibility for quite some time.

Had the pilots not given the billion dollars of concessions last year, and if Amex and GE hadn't ponied up financing last year, then DL would have had to file Ch 11 late last year.

Actually, you would probably find that Delta created a similar site last year but did not use it.

It is grounds for a class action lawsuit by the stockholders for a company to plan to file bankruptcy. Delta and Northwest prepared for the possibility of a bankruptcy but did not decide to file until the board vote this week.

Purchasing a domain name is hardly 'planning to file for bankruptcy'.
