Benefits and Dangers of One TWU/AA Local

We had that at Piedmont for maintenance it was Local Lodge 2444 located in Winston-Salem.

Unless you live in that area, you cannot attend meetings at all and not have your voice heard.

Bad idea, how is someone in LAX going to attend a LL meeting or yet be an officer of the lodge when you are in LAX?

Have you been kept in the dark or under a rock regarding advancements in video conferencing and other technology advances since those days of Piedmont Maintenance you are referencing?
 
Informer you really need to lay off the message boards for a little while you are getting way to emotional. fyi you are pretty good at personnel attacks when it doesn't go your way.

I dont have a "way" on this subject, the thread is about discussing if there is a way, but we cannot get adult discussion going because the children of the profession are too busy showing their asses and making so much background noise that the discussion cannot maintain continuity.

All you have done so far is remained focued on me, Tulsa, and the 514 Local President.

If you are against the idea, try expressing that to us and explaining why you are opposed.

This One local thing was floated by seveal of the line stations about a year or so ago it got a little traction with the Int'l during the early days of the AMP drive and then died off, the idea was to use local 556 {SWA FA's} as a basis for design because when traveling to D.C. for training that was about the only group that was happy with TWU represntation regardless of which division they were from. by the way when you only have one local it is normally in the same city as the company HDQ's so that's most likely a non starter for you guys who want to protect the power and money of 514.

The idea of the Mechanic locals binding together to protect our interest in BK was tried just a few weeks ago with Afw,Dfw,Mia,Jfk and Lax hiring a independent Attorney to watch over Bobby,Don and the hired clowns from the twu Itn'l and for the record Tul & Ord were ask to join the effort and declined, so if this is the conspiracy that you have been speaking of go ask Sam & John why they refused to join the other locals.

I can save some time & effort the Int'l did not want anyone looking over their shoulder and your boys do what there told.

So in the end we could not join together to hire someone to lookout for our interest in BK how could we agree on being in One Local.

One local would be BS for many as relatively few (even less so than now) would be represented for the dues they pay. All that would accomplish would be the same dues intake for the international with the cost of producing those dues dropping like a rock - all the better to buy better cars for the VPs than Buicks and personally, I'm in no mood to do anything to their favor right now. The asshats owe us, the workers, bigtime.

Why not just completely be rid of the twu? There would be little (no pun intended) difference in "representation" although those in the social club would be lost.

You are correct and I too doubt it would/could ever happen with our overhaul vs line division within the "union".

But since it was recently suggested by someone whom I was discussing our current situation with, I was interested in more details regarding what this looks like.

And what about members who have to work when the meeting is scheduled and non-reving is not as easy as you think, once again you chime in on a subject that you know nothing about.

If you cant get the membership to attend meetings now, do you really think they would attend video conferencing and if there is only one local, where would this take place in the numerous stations where maintenance is located?

And where would the grievance committee and other committees work out of?

So your saying there will be one local, and one grievance committee, flight safety, etc only in one location and not throughout the whole system?

Look at the big picture.

Easy. Just skip work (the union will protect them from any reprocussions) and displace paying passengers in premium cabin seats!

I have to admit that I am guilty of not attending meetings for quite some time. But my observations when I have attended have been that the vast majority of attendees are quite happy to get their (free?) soda pop and pop corn and agree with anything that is presented to them. Also the last time I went to a meeting, the place was full of kids. This is a byproduct of such low pay that child care is not affordable for these members. But it was entertaining in the old days to see Ed Wilson in his heyday with the half truths and manipulation of the membership. But I am thinking that with one local, the problems associated with the areas we are in would be trivialized. There is a split between line and O/H because of the different problems we are faced with so how would these things be addressed? I just think that some would feel disenfranchised. But it is a good discussion to have.
 
One Local is not going to work unless EVERYONE has an EQUAL say. The problem with the TWU is that one local (514) has too much power and influence......give up your power and distribute that power SO all Locals have an equal vote and WE may be able to talk about ONE Local.

Gee your ignorance is abound, a non-rev cant take a premium seat from a revenue passenger.
Go back to your cubicle at the bank and find ways to make your employer money instead of budding in on something that doesn't pertain to you.

Sounds like you have Airline Employee Envy.

Josh - surly you know that non-revs do not bump any passengers unless there is an AOG situation or they are management. The passes are rated and part of our compensation. Does your employer provide non - monetary compensation?
