Binary explosives

That is not the argument I am making. They are not organized in the manner of a national government. They are a spread out group loosely held together by their hatred for all things western. They are compartmentalized and distrustful even of others around them.

I do not think an all out scorch and burn would work. The Russians tried that in Afghanistan and failed miserably. Whether the out come would have been different had we not supported OBL and his band of thugs we will never know.

Israel has been fighting terrorism for close to 70 years now. They have all levels of confrontation from surgical to all out war. None worked.

What do they fear? I do not think they fear anything. The radicals of any religion do not seem to fear anything on earth. They are waiting for the afterlife.

I think if we have any hope of 'winning' (I think containment would be the best we an hope for) is to attack the two things that I think they need. They need a place to be and they need money. Out of those two things, money is where we can have an affect. Were the US to say that any country found harboring terrorists will not be doing any business with the US and any other country doing business with that country will also be added to that list as well. I believe that those countries would be quite inclined to kick the bastards out of their boarders. I think the biggest problem with that is our dependence on oil. That dependence will prevent us from winning any measurable victory over these bastards. Our country cannot survive with out oil and they know it. Had we started 30 or 40 years ago to ween our selves from oil we would in all likely hood be able to survive on our own reserves and we would not be in the mess we are in now.

The only reason we have any interest in that pile of sand called the ME is oil. Various countries went into the ME and carved it up in order to gain control over the area. Now those areas have discovered oil and and they are making us pay for it. Break the dependence on oil and you break their hold on the world economy. Break their hold and there is no compelling reason to give them money to fund the various terrorist organization.

Of course none of this will ever come to pass because there are governments, companies and their benefactors who are getting filth rich off of oil. Then there is the fact that people are short sighted and unwilling to make any sacrifices in their life style. They #### about high fuel prices as they throw their plastic container into the waste and step into their empty SUV.

I believe terrorism is here to stay. The rest of the world has been dealing with it for decades. Now it has crossed our boarders and we can learn to accept it as the rest of the world has. We can water board as many people as you want. Make as many attacks as you want. Kill one and 4 more pop up. They are like rats. They multiply faster than you can get them. Then there is the oil thing. No one really wants to try to hard in case they jeopardize the supply.

War does not work against terrorists. Never has and never will. Break the money supply and I thin we have a far better chance of winning.

Speaking of Russia...I think Putin has the right idea.

FRENCH JOURNALIST: ...Don't you think that by trying to eradicate terrorism in Chechnya you are going to eradicate the civilian population of Chechnya?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: If you want to become an Islamic fundamentalist and be circumcised, come to Moscow. We are multiconfessional. We have very good specialists. I can recommend one for the operation. He'll make sure nothing grows back.

Stunned silence. While we are busy Mirandizing terrorists such as the Nigerian underwear bomber, Putin has a whole different approach to terrorism. I may not agree with much of Putin's imperial attitude and policies but after watching this video, it is frightening to think how much he must dominate Obama in private negotiations. And what must Putin think about Americans reading Miranda rights to apprehended terrorists?

That's the problem. China does not have a terrorist problem either. They deal with any transgressions severely. Human rights, individual freedoms are not a concern as there are none.

Listening to Putin he is also not overly concerned with freedoms or rights. If you are suspect, your gone in hi eyes.

Freedom and lack of freedom both have a cost. I prefer to pay the cost of freedom.

Domination is not the issue. Obama or any POTUS has a 200+ year old COTUS to contend with. Putin has no such constraints. He was born in 52 and has vivid memories of communist Russia. I am sure those memories are still with him as is obvious by that statement.

The idea of Miranda in general must be alien to Putin. Russia only broke the bonds of communism recently. They have quite a bit of growing to do before the idea of individual rights and freedoms take a firm hold.

So lets get this straight, Obama sends 30,000 troops to fight terror overseas, yet if any terrorists come to attack us here, they are magically transformed from enemy into defendant.

The logic is perverse. If we find Abdulmutallab in an al-Qaeda training camp in Yemen, where he is merely preparing for a terror attack, we snuff him out with a Predator. No judge, no jury, no qualms. But if we catch him in the United States in the very act of mass murder, he instantly acquires protection not just from execution by drone but even from interrogation.

Yes. That's the way the US legal system works. If the cops are chasing someone and he shoots at them, they have the right to use deadly force. Once the cops have the suspect custody, he is no longer a threat and is entitled to the full protection of the law.

Ain't the COTUS and SCOTUS a PIA?

I think that is a big reason why dictatorships and countries that are not all that concerned about the rights of their citizens don't have a problem with terrorists or uprisings. If their people become uppity (Iran and China anyone) the government just shoots them or puts them in jail. In the US it is not supposed to happen that way but I am sure there are a few folks who we don't know about who were denied this right. I am sure Norton would argue half the population is in jail but I'll let him offer that conspiracy.

The US that we advertise to the rest of the world does not go around depriving others of civil rights just 'cause we wanna do it'.

"Islamic Terrorist attack averted by passengers" !

"Man-made disaster averted by passengers " !

Wonder which one the Nobama admin. is going to use !

Captain Awesome's Counter-Terrorism Honcho: Hey, Let's Offer Panty-Bomber Abdul a Sweet Deal if He Talks!

The U.S. Government is offering the suspect charged with attempting to bomb an aircraft on Christmas Day, Omar Abdulmutallab, some kind of incentives to share what he knows about Al Qaeda, White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan said Sunday.

Asked why Abdulmutallab should cooperate given his right, as criminal defendant, to remain silent, Brennan replied: "He doesn't have to but he knows there are certain things that are on the table... if he wants to engage with us in a productive manner, there are ways he can do that."

This is sheer madness.

The people have spoken.

It appears that it never crossed Abdulmutallab mind that he could face interrogation. From what I’ve read, the dude was singing like a bird right up to the time he was mirandized. Last I heard Abdulmutallab was exercising his US Constitutional right to "lawyer up" and remain silent.

GITMO is where he belongs.

On a brighter note, Newsweek reports that contrary to popular belief, Al Qaeda jihadists are not inserting explosives up their arse.
