What's new

buyouts?

If they would offer the buyout at my seniority I would take the money and run.

Tell me about it. I worked a trip a few weeks ago with a really super guy. He was pretty senior to say the least. I gave him a bit of a tutorial on catcrew during our overnight. He was blown away at what was going on. MANY feel they understand but truly don't. But anyway.... I wonder what will happen if they don't fill the what 314 being offered the buyout. Again, I'd surely put in for it if my poor 10 years could hold it.

It has to do with the BIG PICTURE!! Mouth... What EMB said has to do with everything and if you don't like what is being said then go read the Alaska board. Are you a flight attendant on the East? Furloughed or active? Reserve or Lineholder? Or are you the nasty extra that we had the other day who had NO idea that there was a transition agreement, what a transition agreement was, that there was an SEP offered, or that the West F/A's are now allowed to participate in Profit Sharing? As an aside this particular F/A that I speak of had to be the nastiest, meanest co-worker that I have EVER encountered and I begged her to take the SEP. Turns out she was from you know where!!!
Again, totally off the subject. Was I your extra, no, I don't fly extra positions and whether I was an extra has NOTHING to do with the number of people taking a buyout. The QUESTION was how MANY people are taking the buyout. Suddenly it changes to what seems like IM's to one another about Target. I don't get it. I have nothing against you discussing all the above issues but they are repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again in every single board topic. I would find it nice to just read a number posted, that's all. No reason to attack me. I was just offering a suggestion. Don't be so hateful. Its scary that someone with so much anger is working beside me. Peace.

You need 15 years, not 9.

I think we covered that much. I think the true motivation is, if they offered it to 15 year and under senority they would run out of slots in 2 days! Who who be left on RSV then? Oh wait   That's how abused people feel after a certain time. The sad truth.

I've tried SUPER hard to abstain from this....but I have to ask...for all the "I would leave if I had more years" thing.

If a person is really miserable in what they do, why not find something else? Why sacrifice happiness and YEARS of potential income, better income, doing something else you like?

Not for nuttin'.....but I've been miserable enough in past "jobs" that I've left with NOTHING...no job, no income, no insurance, no nuttin'. And what I learned was that time is short and precious...and finite. Money and cars and houses are not. Those can be earned, bought, returned, whatever, many times over. Life is too damned short to spend what finite minutes/hours/days we'd rather not do.

Of ALL the commodities that exist on this earth, time is the ONLY one that, once it passes, its gone forever, never to be seen again.

People have made and lost billions of dollars....houses have ben bought, foreclosed on and bought back...same for cars, etc. Time? No such an arrangement has ever been made.

Another thing I marvel at is the "I'm here for the benifits" attitude that permeates our society....I have to buy my own insurance....I don't do backflips and cartwheels about it....but ya know what? It beats the hell out of doing something I can't stand doing....I'd rather spend $10,000 a year on insurance then spend a week working at something I can't stand.

No replies necessary....or flame away, I'm really more or less immune to it....but I think it's something to think about...happiness and piece of mind are worth WAY more then being miserable, irritable and thinking you have to stay.

FWIW

Vantheman I agree with what you said. It is sad that people who are so miserable still stick around. I cannot imagine sticking with a job that is so deplorable year after year after year and wasting my life away in the misery. The sad truth is, many are stuck in a financial rut and would be out cold within a month. Others don't have the confidence to leave because they've done this so long and they feel they don't have any skills for any other type of job. I've actually heard f/as make this statement in the crewroom so it isn't me that is just being cruel. They lack the ambition or the confidence to learn a new skill. Many have never worked in the "real" world and I'm not so sure that they would survive. I mean, in the real world, you work when your boss says you have to work and you don't get to plan your own schedule, drop down to 40 hours a month, or cut corners like doing push pull on a 9 hour flight or not doing an arrival service to the West coast because you're not finished with the latest celebrity mags. You actually have to get up and go to work and actually work. What a concept! I walked out of my first teaching job without another job lined up and at the time I didn't know what I was going to do! It was scary because I didn't know how I was going to pay my bills once the money ran out but I had a much better attitude and the burden was lifted off my shoulders and things worked out for the best in the long run. As much as I complain about hating the reserve system, I secretly am happy that I don't fly because I love having all the time off so I can pursue other things that will help me in the future. There's nothing like taking a 2 day when I am on for 5 just so I can sit for two more days and work on my biz venture and then get release and go home a day early. LOL! But I must admit, if they offered the buy out at my seniority, I would take the money and invest it and then go get a job in the real world.

I have heard of two PIT people who will be taking it, and that's only because they were quitting anyway. The company really should have added flight benefits.

I know someone taking it...pretty sure there are flight benefits....pretty sure.

From the union FAQ

Why is the travel provision of the SEP limited to Company policy unless an individual Flight Attendant is entitled to 25/45?

This was a major point of contention between the Union and the Company. The Union wanted travel benefits extended to those who may meet the 15 year seniority eligibility provision of the SEP but not qualify for either 25/45 or the 65-point plan. As stated earlier the Company is targeting more senior Flight Attendants to offset the financial impact to the Company.

What are the differences between 25/45 and the 65-point plan?

25/45 Plan: The Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that should a flight attendant reach 45 years of age and attain 25 years of service as a Flight Attendant, they may separate from the Company and receive lifetime travel benefits as if they were active. Current retiree travel benefits will entitle a flight attendant to unlimited on and offline travel for yourself and eligible family members. You will receive eight (8) companion passes and two (2) SA1 vacation passes each year, and your boarding priority will be set at S3 (active). There is a tax implication with this plan, and you would receive a travel card approximately two to four weeks after your separation from the Company

65 Point Plan: Your age plus your years of service equals or exceeds 65 points. You are therefore eligible to separate from the Company and receive retiree travel privileges in accordance with Company policy. Under this program, your status will be listed as that of resignee, and you will not be able to collect your pension benefits until you reach age 55. Current travel benefits associated with this plan include unlimited on and offline travel for you and your eligible dependents, boarding priority of S4 (inactive), and receipt of four (4) companion passes and two (2) SA1 vacation passes each year. There is no tax liability associated with this plan, and a travel card will be issued approximately two to four weeks after your separation date.
