Russians crash landed in a river also, back in '63.

I think Flying Low was trying to point that there was similar incident, many years ago. In typical Soviet fashion, the incident was hushed up, so there was no "Miracle on Neva" in the news.

Not to take anything away from Capt Sully, but other successful off airport landings after loss of power on both engines include the TACA 737-300 near New Orleans and the SAS MD-80 near Stockholm.

The OP could have put the link better context, IMHO.

I do not think better context was needed. All one needs to do is read the article to see that a really talented crew put a plane down between two bridges and was lucky enough to have a tug right there to tow them to safety. Quite impressive flying.

They made Capt. Sully a great hero. All he did was put his training/talents into action. Yes, he did good, but to become a hero status, I think not. Why did his co-pilot hardly get mentioned? Could other pilots have done that, maybe and then maybe not?

Why didn't the water landing of a small plane in the Gulf of Mexico not make the news for days? Pilot saved the lives of his passengers also. Oh yeah, it was just 3-4 people, not hundreds. Same principle though.
