I never had recurrent in PIT, just initial when changing planes, but the pilot training center (not sim building) was a former elementary or middle school building which had displays of airplane models, uniforms, etc.. I think the FA's used a building on Beer's School Rd since I went there a couple of times for exit door training.

Yup, that was it. At least the drinking fountains and urinals in the "Boys Room" in the pilot training center weren't mounted a few inches off the floor like the ones in the old elementary school building used for FA training.  It seemed the pilot facility used to be a junior high.

RIP Captain Tembe...

I'm reasonably certain the facility you speak of was called:

Philadelphia Navy Yard Field / Henry C. Mustin Naval Air Facility,

Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, PA

40.1 North / 75.27 West (Northeast of Philadelphia International Airport, PA)

Much Much More Here
That was cool. Thank you

I'll always choose my seat on the right-side of a US Airways flight anticipating the aircraft will land RWY 27L at PHL just to be able to see those ships,

Thanks for the link and the info, always wondered about its history.

Spent my share of time on the USS "ForrestFire" as we used to "fondly" refer to her!

At the end of the link you provided, is another one I found interesting:

http://www.airfields-freeman.com/index.htm

I was able to find information about the since abandoned airfield where I first soloed on my 16th Birthday in 1969, great memories!

Best regards,

seajay

You're welcome. That web site is really something. The guy who runs it must be the biggest Aviation Junkie on the planet. The detail is amazing.
