Huh? I have to drive to my destination because I refuse to buy a snack on the plane if you won't take cash?
YOU are the person who said you wouldn't give a company business that didn't take cash. AA,SW,DAL,UA and soon US are all cashless. Who you gonna fly out of Dallas if you have to pay cash?

Whatbag, just to cut the other f/as a little slack...

I know that when we first started using the OSRs (Onboard Sales Recorder--our name for HHDs) at AA, there were quite a few transmission problems. At first, I too thought it was f/as not doing something right, but on a reserve month, I was flying #2 a good bit. #2 f/a is responsible for doing the transmissions. I learned that not only were certain machines "glitchy", it was almost impossible to get a successful transmission at certain airports--DCA was one of them. Most of the time at DCA you couldn't even get connected to the network.

It took several months and numerous software upgrades to correct the transmission problems. We did not go cashless until "unable to transmit" events were occurring only a minimal number of times. We rarely have the problem anymore. If we do, it's usually a problem with the HHD. I was commuting home on a flight last week where the #2 (who is a friend) asked me to see what I could do (she knew that I had spent 20+years in the Information Technology field). One of the devices would transmit, but the other would not. That's clearly a device issue.

That being said, I am also aware that we had some f/as who flat refused to use the devices or to transmit if they did. "That's not in our contract. I don't have to do that." When threatened with probation for restriction of output (a termination offense), they came around to the modern way of doing things. 🙄

Noted...and you are correct. My post is directed at those that are too lazy to transmit, read memo, or pick up a phone. Worst yet, those vandalizing the HHD.

lol

I was talking about the snack, not the airline ticket. I always charge airline tickets because I always buy them on the internets.

For those saying younger people don't have CC cards or ATM cards....PLEASE, they couldn't buy a ticket without a credit or debit card. NOBODY should have to carry $300-$1000 on their layovers and THAT is reason enough to go cashless. The only people who will REALLY miss the cash alternative are the thieves.

As far as the HHD? If our stupid flight attendant group would just once read their company mail, a memo, or visit Wings, they would KNOW how to troubleshoot with the HHD. There is NO EXCUSE for the STUPID scenerios I have seen. How about checking the batteries to see if they are low. Soft setting. Transmit. Wow, what concepts. If everyone would transmit and not let the darn thing accumulate a week's worth of sales, there wouldn't be many issues.

I promise you between Brinks and stealing, we will profit A LOT the moment we go cashless!

I love when the HHD is green tagged and the inbound crew says, "I had this airplane yesterday and tagged it yesterday". They think the GREEN HHD FAIRY is going to "poof" out of the sky in the compartment and fix the HHD just because it is green tagged. Really, people, what do you think when you green tag it? That the HHD fairy is going to fix it in that little compartment? No, you tell the captain and maint fixes it. But if you green tag it and never call the f/d, then it never get's fixed.....

No Bob. Everyone is thinking there is a big conspiracy to not use the HHD'S. There is no conspiracy.....it's just that the majority of people using them STILL don't know how to SAP!! For you non airline people that means when you get your original schedule, you can go in and rebid the whole thing! It is a tool to benefit the employee and years later they can't figure it out. Odd. Very very odd.
