Challenges ahead mean US Airways honeymoon over

More deals possible?

The work ahead hasn't deterred Parker from throwing US Airways' hat in the ring should other airline deals crop up.

He has acknowledged talking to Delta, which is operating in Bankruptcy Court. Northwest, another bankrupt carrier, also has come up.

Parker won't say if he's pursuing any deal but said it would be irresponsible to rule it out.

"Clearly, if we could stop time and make everyone else stand still until we got done with our work, that's our preferred solution," he said. "That clearly is not an option. The world moves around us, and we can't ignore it."

When he was interviewed on local TV here in the Burgh he pretty much made it perfectly clear that further consolidation is anything but over.

Employees of the industry are on the bottom tier of concern as airline executives continue to become multi millionaires while employees go the other direction. Pollyanna airline employees who think otherwise after everything negative that has happened to them should seek counseling ASAP because reality isn’t registering.

Unions have their hands tied behind their backs as judges rule against them at the same time executives are allowed to come and go in the industry taking millions for themselves without any kind of resistance.

You’re paying union dues so your thirty five years of seniority will get you a daylight job or the premium job which has a reduced rate to go along with a reduced pension if you get a pension at all. It’s crazy, just like the world we live in.

These boards are a good conduit to keep airline employees sane in an insane industry in which they are trapped.

God Be with you All.

I think Northwest Airlines would be a good fit merger with US Airways. Please wait and see what happened?

PROS (Hits)
  • Profit. The airline reported a $305 million second-quarter profit. Its profit margin was second only to Southwest Airlines, its revenue growth was second to none.
  • Stock performance. US Airways' stock has more than doubled from its $19.30 offering price. The merger's biggest financial backers got in at $15 a share. LCC stock price $46.23 a share as of September 15, 2006 about $4.07 billion dollars.
  • No major meltdowns. The old US Airways was infamous for its Christmas baggage catastrophe a couple of years ago. The combined airline has seen service deteriorate but no problems of that magnitude.
CONS (Misses)
  • New Web site and frequent-flier program. Passengers initially couldn't book flights, log into their frequent-flier accounts or get up-to-date information.
  • Customer service. After starting off strong in the industry rankings, especially in on-time arrivals, the airline has ranked in the bottom half of the industry the past few months.
  • Labor relations. Employees started out high on the merger, but there is growing angst about slow contract negotiations and the company's stance that there is little or no money for raises or improved benefits.

Challenges ahead mean US Airways mgt/labor divorce upon us

More animosity possible?

The lack of respect of labor ahead hasn't deterred Parker from throwing US Airways' hat in the ring should other airline deals crop up.

He has acknowledged talking to Delta, which is operating in Bankruptcy Court. Northwest, another bankrupt carrier, also has come up. He is looking to take advantage of raped labor contracts in order to drive up the LCC stock price so as to enrich he and his incompetent mgt cronies.

Parker won't say if he's pursuing any deal but said it would be irresponsible to rule it out. How can one rule out yet more ways of hiding operational incompetence while profiting on employee givebacks?

"Clearly, if we could stop time and make everyone else stand still until we got done with our work, that's our preferred solution," he said. "That clearly is not an option. The world moves around us, and we can't ignore it." Certainly our 300 million quarterly profit is precisely the amount generated by employee salary and benefit cuts but hey, we still have an airline to provide a cash flow for GE Credit and others. Not to mention the runup in the stock price that I, and my crack team, are taking full advantage of.

Crack. I knew it all along

When did the honeymoon start?

The honeymoon was only limited to the Senior Execs and Investors who saw the stock soar.

Personally, the airline business is like the auto business, for labor...Corporate doesn't care about customer service or product, and places no value on its front line workers who make "it happen".

Its a terrible time for America today, and the world. Enormous amount of world anger, So much chaos, and discontent and greed "run a muck".

Folks are sick of struggling, not able to make ends meet, credit problems, health issues, as well as family problems that are associated. The job uncertainty is ever more prevalent as education is sky rocketing, good paying jobs are scarce, illegal immigration issues and roller/coaster fuel prices that put pressure on the overall economy and disposable income... with our taxes trying to support a war on terror, a war raging in Iraq, a war in Afganastan, a war on world religions, more border security. The American citizens are walking a fine line between sanity and insanity.

I'm only citing an observation. When your children, who never took notice of world events or politics before, start talking about Corporate greed, necessary profiling, religeous fantacism, and those around the world who criticize the pope for the love of god and start burning down churches with no denouncement in this country for those actions by the muslims...it serious business and an awakening.

Time to rise up.

I think it is a critique of life in general. Does Bush have anything to do with life in general after being President for almost six years? You decide and then do what you can to make life as good as it can be.

a320av8r,

Is that a question?

The post is a summation of what the workers at USAirways have to deal with today which is a microcosm of the stressors that the American family/worker has to deal with in today's reality. Workers at U were never on a "honeymoon".

If you see this post as "blame" or an "either/or", or "black/white" issue that is not applicable to what you were thinking should be...then, you stand corrected. My post reflects a permanent change in attitude precipitated by the events in one's personal/work life and the country.

Like they say, if you want to live like a Republican vote Democrat!!
