What's new

Charlotte

Who cares, those CLT bars suck. They're overcrowded and understaffed. Pretty much just like the resident hub carrier.

Sounds like Phoenix. Can't smoke anywhere anymore either. Have to be 20ft from an outside doorway. Like I want to smoke in 110 degrees 20ft away, like smoking an oven!!

Hey Moderator Scot...........How does this have anything to do with USAirways???????

US just happens to have their largest Hub in Charlotte and there are alot of Employees and Passengers that frequent this board, so I do believe this has something to do with US Airways, just indirectly. But still relivant for discussion.

Well sweetie, that drinker might be either a problem on the road or a problem on the aircraft. And that's a far more immediate issue than second hand smoke.
And far more dangerous.

People don't get high smoking cigs. Drinkers do. Smokers don't get aggressive, drinkers do.

Let me give you a heads up Mr. Future UScapt...alcohol is seducutive and it's the Devil's hand maiden.( I know I sound medival ) Don't ever say that drinking doesn't affect the person next to you. Check out an Al-Anon meeting. It will make you cry. 🙁

Which is why I said this:
if your drinking is affecting the person next to you, you probably will be headed out.

I don't feel the need to go the bar before my flight, but many do and do so responsibly without cause for alarm. Now with our type of passenger changing towards a more "inexperienced" type, this may become more prevalent. I feel bad for agents and FAs (especially the WN ones that seem to have to deal with it more frequently) that have to deal with these people.

People don't get high smoking cigs. Drinkers do.

They both contain addictive elements.

As far as your distinction between drinkers and smokers, I have yet to see a drinker burn down an airplane. Have you ever seen a smoker, deprived of his vice for several hours, frantically thrusting aside people in his haste to get to an approved place to smoke?

Yeah, I was pretty annoyed by CLT's recent smoking ban. Lately I have been developing an idea, though. Are you tired of all the bans on smoking, guns, booze, drugs, etc?

Maybe it's time we used the law to effect a contrary point of view. Instead of proscribing all these "vices" by force of law, we use force of law to compel compulsory consumption and ownership fo all these things.

Mao said, "Power comes from the barrel of a gun." That said, why not use the power of the state to compel freedom? Compulsory freedom by force. Ironic, but the way these do-gooder busybodies are running around on the planet, maybe that's the only freedom people will understand, since they are so indoctrinated with the ideology of the omnipotent state.

The airport got caught off guard on the smoking ban, the airport just got done doing an upfit for one restuarant to pull all the smoke out and then the City drops the no smoking bomb, "No Smoking in any City owned facility", even city owned vehicles....

this has alot to do with US airways, I fly US air mostly because I liked connecting in Charlotte where there were plenty of bars and restaurants to smoke in, I would choose Charlotte over places like Atlanta.
I Fly out of RIC, so i have to connect somewhere, mostly Charlotte on US AIR or Atlanta on Delta,so I guess US Airways is out of my travel planning since I would have to connect somewhere I can't smoke which means I will now fly Delta, at least they accomodate smokers there.

Now i know this all may sound silly, but any smoker can relate i'm sure, so It's Delta from now on and while my 5 or 6 trips a year won't affect the bottom line at US air, who knows how many people will make the same choice.
So I hope that answers your question about what this subject has to do with US Airways

Same spin when the city fathers decided to ban smoking in my city. Same whining and complaining. Yet, after the smoke cleared, the bar owners could not keep up with the massively increased business. They started to complain they had too much business. BTW, 8 million city.

Also, no one answered my comment about only smokers have brought down aircraft, not drinkers. No takers?

I never said a thing about bars losing business, i am sure they will do just fine without smokers, however, they will loose my business since i won't be in Charlotte again, and how does a smoker bring down a plane when there isn't any smoking on them??
and by the way, I am not whining, i am simply stating my case, plain and simple!

I get the feeling you are not a smoker, so i am sure you would not understand

Its not about the safety on the plane, its just the new wave of rules being pondering on us all. Freedom is soon becoming a thing of the past.

Is it really neccasary to quit flying the airline you enjoy just because you can't smoke in there hub?? Look at Las Vegas, who would ever think they would of banned smoking there? Does that mean you stop flying to Las vegas? Seems VERY silly. The bottom line is you can't smoke anywhere nowadays, period! Pretty soon, it will be illegal, or so expensive, know one will even bother. Better to quit the habit. Plus, hotels are getting harder and harder to find smoking rooms. It will be a thing of the past evetually.
