I have a different view than most write on this subject and in my view, I can understand the hate and fear on both sides.

I do not hate nor fear them. I have lived amongst them, broken bread with them and have (tried) to discuss theology with them. Many were educated in the US and UK and have experienced the life outside of their homeland. They were great folks, flesh and blood just like the rest of us ………to a point!

Once they understood that I was not a candidate for Islamic conversion, things changed pretty quickly.
Because we are ‘not-muslim’ we are considered monkeys and pigs.

The government wants the U.S to believe that if we don't fight them in IRAQ, they will come here. THat is the "new mantra" in order to justify the continuing war and presence in Iraq. You may think that I am citing a "liberal" view, but I'm neither.

JMHO, they are coming here sooner or later because the American people do not have the intellect to understand the scope of the problem and the resolve to see this through. The question is ‘cut & run’ or see it through. IMHO, a cut & run will be more disastrous than ‘staying the course’, but I do disagree with being hard-headed and plowing the fields of ‘staying the course’ without some huge changes. If we cannot increase our military presence then we should cut and let the chips fall on NY, PA, SF, etc..

I believe the U.S. view is that "these people" want the world to be Islam. I think they have been indoctrinated to believe that the West is evil and will destroy their way of life.

They have and live for that goal and nothing we can do or say in appeasement will change their opinion. Their opinion and goals are cast in their Quran for all to see and their actions prove their theology.

I am only citing what the media and has reported. I haven't lived there, haven't studied the Islam religtion, so I don't really know if we in the States are really getting the entire broad global story of what the "truth" is. Just as I believe the middle eastern muslim community don't know what the "truth" really is except what their political leaders indoctrinate.

Well, I am certainly no expert, but when I first went to SA I bought books on their culture and started studying Arabic. After living with them and communicating with them for about a year, I threw the books away.

Being in poverty, no job, and having no forseeable future except that they have been told that in martydim they will be heavenly rewarded. Who there is to teach and tell them differently. There is a civil war in IRAQ; like any other civil uprising, those sectarian radicals are fighting each other now over what I stated above...power and control of the country.

Yes, they are brainwashed by their leadership and kill each other as well as anyone else. The only time they stop killing each other is to collectively kill us.

The leaders are not the ones strapping bombs to their bodies. They are getting the weak minded in their society to do this "in the name of god". I believe its more about political power, land, control than it is about religion. I believe that the U.S occupation in Afganistan and IRAQ has inflamed these extremists who believe the U.S is so arrogant to come in and destroy their cities for the sake of what our gov. views as freedom, liberty, democracy....or else.

In this point, we are on opposite sides. Take the case of Osama. He was a rich western educated Saudi that gave up everything to live in destitution to lead for his ‘cause’. His only existence is to kill us for his ‘jihad’ against his belief that the US presence in the Middle East is against the Quran and Islamic law. He was/is not seeking political power or wealth, he sacrificed it all for his belief.

IMHO, his belief is that you will become Muslim or die. He is willing to do anything for this end and nothing is unjustifiable to these nuts.

I have a very good and close (U.S citizen) friend who just returned from Egypt after living there for 6 years and practicing medicine in a hosptital there. He said that what we see in the U.S and the media is not the full "truth". We as a people should do our best to discern the information and be critical of what we hear and what our leaders tell us is "truth".

What is the ‘full’ truth? I do not have it and if anyone tells you that they do then get ready to run.
I do know that living in SA that ‘EVERYTHING’ is censored. Newspapers, telephone, mail, et al…

Truth:
My friend’s wife was taking a correspondent course with a Christian publication. The publication had the school logo with a cross on the top of every page (over 1,000 pages). Each page had the cross blocked out in black marker by hand.

My personal mail was opened. (damn nutheads stole my wine yeast!!!)

Every (I do mean ‘every’) time & whatever magazine had the legs and arms of females blacked out with a magic marker………..By Hand!!!

Does Egypt do that? I don’t know.

I do know this, there is no way that the we ( the people) would tolerate any foreign occupation in our country, tanks on our streets and missles in our airspace. We in the U.S have no conceptulization of what that would be like. We have never been occupied. We can only imagine, and that thought alone angers us enough to inflame war and hate as a people and continue a war in Iraq.

As long as the American people see this as a political power play and believe all the reheteric on how we are transgressors on their land, but blind themselves to the terrorist mindset, then we are as doomed as anyone else (or was).

Do not ‘hate’ the enemy for being the enemy, but understand who he is and what his motivations are.

The U.S. occupation that is reality in those countries inflame THEIR people with the same intensity, enough to inflame war and hate as a people.

JMHO, anything we do inflame them. They will start a ‘jihad’ at a whim. There was minimal US occupation in the Middle East prior to the Saddam invansion in Kuwait.
We saved their a$$es for Saddam in Kuwait and what is our thanks?

We have all grown up accustomed to life on easy street here in the good 'ol USA....several generations now have not seen sacrifice and wanting on any scale close to what others in other countries have/had or will.Our world starts to collapse when we had to buy gas every other day some time ago.....we sit and watch the evening news while eating dinner....its a world away.

There are several excellent books out there on Islam and their intended goal.You'd be suprised if you read them...also the Quran has some excellent revealing passages .
