I have a question; don't destroy me for this. Here it goes,
In July I will be flying CO for the first time ever. How is the service on-board?

Thanks,

CO is one of the few airlines that still offer full service on their flights, you don't pay for food in coach if it is a meal flight.

CO has one of the better reputations for service and they F/As are top notch, I know many of them.

It all depends on your itinerary.International is still very good in BF and Y. Domestically, it varies. If you are flying short haul (EWR/IAH-Florida), you may or may not get a "meal".On flights to FLA, FC meals are pretty good, usually a hot enree and some sweet dessert, but Y coach "meals" usually consist of a 1/4 size turkey sandwich  , carrots and candy bar. If it not "mealtime", you'll be eating pretzels! Medium haul and transcon flights get a cheeseburger or pizza (all dough)/or some other hot enree. potatoe chips and candy. Dont forget to bring water! You can use your own headsets for the movie (if scheduled, usually 2.5 hrs or longer) or buy and keep one of CAL's headsets.

"'Fabulous' is the word for the Golden Jet. Designed to carry up to 150 persons, its passenger list will be limited to only 110 (48 in luxury First Class and 62 in Club Coach). And each class has its own spacious lounge. Reserved seats for all...complimentary Golden Champagne luncheons and dinners...television in the First Class lounge...king-size easy chairs...cocktails from a golden cart...these are just a few of the joys that await Golden Jet travelers."

And, as if THAT weren't enough: "Your Continental hostess is a graduate of Continental's Hostess Training School at Continental's new $2.6 million base, Los Angeles International Airport."

I wonder if the above info is still current?

Thanks. I believe I will be on a 737-500.

Then I guess what I reported won't apply, since it won't be a Golden Jet 707-134!
The verbiage was taken from the April, 1959 CO timetable, right before the June intro of the Golden Jet on the LAX-ORD, LAX-DEN-ORD, and LAX-MKC(yes, MKC--had to be an 'interesting' takeoff in an early 707 "water wagon"!)-ORD routes.
Not bad for an airline that just a few short years prior had been but a large Local Service carrier, with a route system bounded by the rectangle formed by two of the above cities (Denver and KC) along with El Paso and Houston.
Hope the FAs are still 'Hostess School" grads!

I think it's great if CO still has FAs who were Hostess School grads in '59: they probably knew Bob Six and his lovely wife Alice Kramden, er, Audrey Meadows!
(Of course, they could be from the Trans-Texas/Texas Int'l side of the family tree rather than the 'Golden Jet" side...)
