The question is, if US is successful in this take-over of DL, then how is US going to get a hold of some lucrative Asian routes, too???
My speculation (wish):
US is successful in acquiring DL. Even makes some money by selling one of the shuttles. UA goes for NW -- but they have overlapping Asian routes and slots and DOJ, etc say they need to get rid of some of them...and guess who's going to be a position to buy them??? DL/US
Not only will DL/US have incredible trans-atlantic presence, carribbean and latin and south american presence, it will be able to get into Asia, too. Just as DL is ready to take delivery of the 777LR's, too.
Hey, a girl can dream, can't she????
The wild card in all of this is Continental -- how are they going to fit into the scheme of things? Maybe UA and CO hook-up and NW is sold off in parts??? And what "parts" of DL, and all the others, too, Southwest is going to decide it wants to have...
Call Doug Parker what you will, but he's a shrewd businessman in this airline world and he's got the backing of a ton of investors and Wall Street. Hard to beat. Only LUV, with their mountains of cash may be in a better position to do anything in this industry.
