theronin,What change?
Jim you're so full of it. You don't want REAL change, it scares the sh*t out of you, just like many others just like you still here at United. You want things the way they used to be in your little cocoon world known as United. I would love to see change, I dream of it, taste it, see it, want it so bad you have no idea...not just at United, but in this sickened industry as a whole. I know, I know...well Ronin, if it's so bad why don't you just leave....you're the problem Ronin....Ronin, why don't you just go away, blah blah blah.
What I dream of is the American dream Jim. Where if you work hard, study, and apply yourself, you can make something of yourself. That you are thought of based on your ethics, attitude and talent. I do not believe in this "socialistic" enviroment called United or commercial aviation for that matter. It breeds the worst of people. This has always been a company of haves and have nots. It has been a company of have your cake and eat it too. There is something fundamentally wrong when a guy sits on his ass for years and watches a smart, hardworking guy push his box out while shoving a donut in his freak'n face. And I'm still here Jim, but I'd put it all on the line to see it change. I love competition, I think it brings out the best in us. You move, you hussle, you think or your out. It's the way I felt when I showed up at 24 and it's the way I feel at 40. I'm stupid for feeling that way because it will never change. It's a joke and it will always be a joke here. The management hasn't changed, the culture hasn't changed. When Cortez landed on the new world, he burned his ships. Why Jim? Because there was no going back. Sink or swim, we either succeed together or we fail together. Where is that atmosphere? All I see is snotty, self centered UAL people who have been here since I ever arrived. I've seen a guy struggling with a generator, about to drop it, and have two guys just walk by like it's not their problem. I watch the same people (and I want to apologize to them right now, for these comments are not for them) come in everyday and contribute while others just dodell along earning the same pay. In the real world, your ass would be gone. And what is even more ironic....if you put out a good days work, you are looked at like something is wrong with you!!! And I don't believe for one second that this has just occurred over the last couple of decades. My sense of change Jim would scare the living sh*t out of most people. Good thing I'm just a little indian just like everyone else. 😀atabuy said:theronin,
You quoted real change and I asked you what you mean.
Let me quote the post.
Again I ask you, What is the real change you refer to?
Did you forget what you wrote.
I mean, you felt, dreamt, and tasted it.
You sure you are on the right site?
Interesting ‘story’, however it doesn’t address the facts that our first line ‘supervision’ do not possess the business acumen of a Cro-Magnon life form. Furthermore, your hypothetical inference that ‘attitude’ will overcome our managerial ineptitude and ignorance is quite republican (but inaccurate). I give 100% every day because that is who I am. It is not due to the leadership abilities of my ‘superiors?’ (as they have none!!!) but my own innate drive to earn my pay.novaqt said:🙂 The Ronin:
Food for thought..... This says it all!!!
ATTITUDE
The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully
dressed each morning, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup
perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing
home today.
Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home,
she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready.
As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual
description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been
hung on her window.
"I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having
just been presented with a new puppy.
"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait."
"That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied.. "Happiness is
something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not
doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged... it's how I arrange my
mind. I already decided to love it ..
"It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up.
I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I
have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed
and be thankful for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new
day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time
in my life.
Old age is like a bank account ... you withdraw from what you've put in
.. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the
bank account of memories. Thank you for your part in filling my Memory
bank. I am still depositing.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

The real change you dreamed of is in a perfect world.
I too, thought change was coming during the ESOP, but alas, again the inperfect world got in the way.
Somewhere along the line you have to accept the world is not perfect, but can still do the things that make you happy, and not let outside sources affect your well being.
Everyday you have that choice. Each day you can decide what you will let into your life and what you won't.
You already work toward a goal by working two jobs.
To quote someone: Life is what happens as you plan for it.
Don't get caught up in the plan and forget to live in the present.
Don't worry! Be Happy!

Where do you ELOY come from?

It's Eloi.
It does seem to be you know nothing of the history that put you where you are.
I know, you did it all on your own, and no one helped.
There are many people who have put a lot more on the line, than the small sacrifices you have made. It must feel special to you to take cheap shots at people who try to help you.
You couldn't have chosen a better movie to desribe yourself. A free lunch is hard to pass up. Huh?
First, he thinks that the Eloi are the sole descendents of humanity. He assumes that scientific progress continued to make life easier for humans, so much so that they lost their edge, becoming stupid and lazy. He implies that this fate is the result of communism, as if the lack of competition drove the human race to indolence. Second, after he discovers the Morlocks, he thinks that the Morlocks are the slaves of the Eloi. He still feels that the Eloi have devolved into frail creatures because their life is too easy, but he believes that the Morlocks, humanity's other descendent, have evolved into brute workers. He thinks that this is capitalism's division of labour taken to the extreme. Third, when he discovers that the Morlocks hunt and terrify the Eloi, he assumes that his second theory was once true, but that the Morlocks evolved to the point where they needed to prey on the Eloi. It is a theory of revenge of the working classes. These successive theories do not replace each other; rather, each one encompasses a broader view.

UAL_Tech,
Here is a little info for you.
Looks like you might be a dreaded Morlock, and management the Eloi.
You are definately not the time traveler. He was able to see the future, and go forward, to help correct the wrongs that were done. You seem to be living in the past.
I don't blame the mechanics. I don't like the attitudes of some mechanics and I did at one point think they were accountable for some of it, and their thinking that this was just a management ploy to get concessions.
Time has given us a better insight into how bad the company was doing.
People try to give prospective so life might be lived a little easier. Sometimes people get it and sometimes they don't. It is your life. As I stated before. You choose the one you want.
Now get back underground and keep those machines working.
The Time Traveller formulates three successive theories of how the society of the Eloi functions.
