Delta competing for 3rd party work!

I wonder how far down the list they will have to go. A co worker of mine had a freind who was laid off from Delta. He eventually got a job with SWA. Have a feeling he will say no. Just like anyone else would.

Right now the ATL list has less than 700 mechanics on it. So there may be some new hires.

That is Odd!

Bill, Burchette, Romano, and High Speed Steel claim that AA and Tulsa is the only group working to remain in the overhaul business and bringing work in-house.

Damn, fooled and lied to again. Imagine that?

The TWU and AA fail to mention what they don't want you to know. You must believe in the scritpures according to burchette and Managemant!

All praise to the leaders who deceive!

The good news is that sometimes, as with this story, the all knowing Tulsa World prints the facts.

I wonder if the bubbalievers actually noticed the story and could put two and two together though. That's a very tough call.

The article said Delta is trying to expand their service offering as a third party maintenance provider. Nothing about bringing work back in house. I have received several brochures from UAL, they a touting their third party work, nothing about bringing work back from China.

Doesn't make sense does it? Unless the customers are not willing to dead head airplanes to Asia, or maybe British Columbia, a la SWA.

This was a pretty radical change in direction for DL, so out of fairness, up until last week, AA really was the only airline looking to keep overhaul in-house.

And, as already stated, this is an announcement on attracting third party work. DL is still continuing to outsource overhauls to Air Canada and others, so what good is it to have third party work when you're still sending your own fleet over the border?

Lastly... there's been a flurry of diversionary activity done by DL to make people think they're got a viable restructuring plan, and this seems to fit that description pretty well. If the US buyout occurs, kiss all this renewed effort by TechOps to bring in outside work goodbye.

I think you guys are missing the boat on this one. Why can't a company outsource some work, airframe overhaul, and insource other work, C check. Dl is also insourcing a lot more engine work, but we still send out our 777 engines. It isn't cost effective for us to do that work inhouse and they don't feel they can bring in enough on that line to make money.

Sure, I wish we were bringing all the overahaul work back. We did keep the 777 and 738 work from going outside though. That work along with insource work is what is driving the recalls.

I do believe those engines are done at AA (TAESL), and DL is doing AA's 757 ex-TWA engines. I also see UAL doing the same thing as DL with the insourcing certain things and outsourcing others. AA has always had a cost advantage with the 25 years worth of concessions from the twu, so it does make sense for them to keep more inhouse. 😉

I thought the 777 engines were done at AA, but I wasn't sure. One way DL has lowered the costs of our hangar work is been the increase in the Tech Helper position. I'm not sure how they are being used in ATL but I think they are doing alot of the open up/close up tasks.

Right now their ranks have a bunch of AMT's that elected to demote in the last layoff. When these guys go back to AMT slots Tech Helpers will be getting hired off the street for about $10/hr.

I guess that they will bring that work back after we bring back all the stuff that the TWU outsorced from A&Ps "in house".

OSMs, Deicing, Recieve and Dispatch etc, etc

DL has been bringing in work for a long time. So this isnt just a show. Several years ago there were articles about how Delta had brought in enough outside work to offset their own maintenance costs. JFK was cited as an example where it competely offset their own costs.

UAL has not left OH either, despite the lies of certain TWU officials who claim otherwise, in fact most of the stuff that they eliminated was stuff where TWU officials claim that they shouldnt use A&Ps any way, work that the TWU created the much lower paid OSMs for.

We don't use Cascade at Abbotsford any longer. From what I heard there was a big issue with the taxation of spares sent across the border as well as the declining value of the US $ against the CA $.

How much truth to this is unknown but that's what I was told...
