Delta offers severance to 30,000 5% reduction in flying

IAnd as far as the crews, how would layoffs be conducted especially since the seniority thing was never
resolved..

UH OH!

Methinks the waters are getting dangerous!

Interesting question because flight attendants still do not have a combined seniority list.

I'll be interested to see if they will offer an early out to anybody who wants to leave rather than a 15 year minimum?
As usual, I believe nothing until I actually see it. In the case of the uniform roll-out, I still don't believe it.
Compliance? How about getting our subcontractors to comply with providing the proper services and tools? That's some compliance I'd like to see.

I highly doubt that you'll see any buyout until 2009. First, they have to staff the summer international schedule, and since they've not yet mastered "Staffing an Airplane 101" they always like warm bodies hanging around.

The other reason they won't, if they are at all thinking, is because the last of the buyout people do not go until late 2009, I believe, and they can't offer anything better with them on property or AFA will demand a match.

This bunch just can't figure out that health benefits + money =senior retirements.

Time to look at the West operation and cut some of those unprofitable runs.Bur , ONT and SNA come to mind. The East is the profitable side , its time for management to quit playing favorites to the West employees and lay some of them off !
As for a severance package , $2,000 for every year of service and I am gone tomorrow ! It's time to jump off this sinking ship !

didn't they try this already? and it was woefully undersubscribed by f/as.

first of all, parker and the gang are far too cheap to assemble an attractive separation package. secondly, they are so shortsighted, that the long term financial improvements of skimming off the most senior, would never even appear on their radar screen.

They recent one offered due to PIT closing was only offered to the east. My guess is that the Tempe folks didn't deem in necessary or worth it to offer the ones not taken to the west.

I think they would have to limit the number of people jumping at a somewhat decent early out. Heck, if they offered me 2,000 for every year of service, that'd almost be what I make in a year, and I've been here for almost two years. 🙂

Thank god the Speedbird is dead.

Well Browneye,
Your glad the speedbird is dead!!!
well the speedbird made a 33% profit every year up til they were bought out and now take the top exec. IE: Bethune ..... and he got all "the good ol boys " together when Continental was about to fall into Bk.
So CO. now is making $$$$ and thier employees make way much than US ........ Top out Ramp $21, 6weeks of Vacation, and wait the top out Rampies just got thier PS and i think it was around $3500.00
So, I think we should of held onto that bird instead of letting it fly away!

I doubt that it will be anything close to that amount. My best friend Betty was an agent for Delta for 15 years and they offered her a small percentage per year of service as well as a matching number of years to fly free. So the amount came to $7,500.00 and 15 years of flying.

Oh that's right I forgot. This is USAir now; only airline that can't hack it at SNA. How many times has USAir pulled out of SNA already? Other airlines will be clamoring for the gates we give up. In fact why don't we just get it over with. Go back to your roots; fly the only markets you've ever really been able to make it on. Parkersburg to State College. Ithica to Elmira. Yessir, that's where the real money's at.

What really gets me is when more junior flight attendants talk about the "senior" folks and why they don't just leave. Well the senior folks of oh say 25 years and up make up such a tiny portion of the flight attendant population. It's the flight attendants that were hired in the 80's to early 90's that make up over something like 25% of the population on the east. There was a list that I read at the airport that someone had. It listed how many flight attendants hired per year that were still active. Anyone have it?

The plan US will provide probably will be something like this:

The worker will have the right to retire at anytime they must meet the following conditions

1) Give up all there senority and recall but Senior agents get express service for discharge

2) Sign papers say they want no health benefits

3) Sign papers saying they want no flying benefits

4) You pay the company $30,000 for the right to leave which will go to bonus for the execs

5) Oh and you have to give them your dignity as well

This is just a joke but its pretty close to what I think what the company thinks of the employees of this company
