delta or us airways?

I think it depends on what you want. I was hired by all of the major 3 and at after 15 years I've seen everything I want to see. Give me a descent layover at a descent hotel and I'm happy.

It's all about the company you work for at this point. Since I don't live in ATL full time I find myself buying ID90's any because the Delta flights are full or I don't want to have to go south to go North or East.

In the long run I think it's about who pays the most and who's going to be around the longest. I would choose SWA before Delta at this point because they have a great business plan and they are employees first.

if you're just looking for a lifestyle experience with the added benefit of some income, savings (401k is great in your 20s) and health care, I'd go with DL because of the travel options, especially with the coming expansion to Europe. Do you really care if you get laid off?

i'd like to work at swa but the airport that has swa is too far for me

As a former employee of Delta and a current employee of US. you would be better off with US. As for the non rev. and the horror stories a few bitter people have have posted on here. Do not listen to them. You are 20 years old and want to experience the world. This is the place to do it. I non rev all the time. i have had very little problems getting around. i have been bumped a couple of times but that is life in the non rev travel world.

keep in mind that DL and NW are in different places w/ regard to restructuring when compared w/ UA and US. It was pretty bleak at those latter two airlines not too long ago but things are looking up as they put their accomplishments in bankruptcy to work. You have to make some sort of estimate as to where DL will be after bankruptcy. THere are plenty of opinions on this board which you can review. If having a larger network means something to you, then DL certainly has an advantage. If your primarily interested in domestic travel and are willing to buy reduced rate tickets on other carriers, then US should work fine. Honestly, given how low domestic fares are, if you're going to work for an airline, plan on seeing the world.

With US you have an officer group who wants to run an airline who has a good relationship with its employees which makes it a more stable and healthier company to work for. As for the domestic travel with the combined route system of US/East and US/West there is no real reason you need to buy reduced fair tickets on other airlines. The main reason US employees buy these tickets are for backup due to the high pax loads.

I don't work for delta or us but i do fly a tremendous amount both domestic and international, usually on ual or aa. i have been forced to purchase an occasional ticket on the low budget carriers. it has never been a good experience, on southwest or spirit anyway. i would take a "legacy-quality carrier" any day. sorry to go against the political tide but wn means "weiner" to me and i try hard not to let my family fly on them or a couple of other carriers that i don't think are safe or professional. flame away!
