as a us f/a. i want to know what the delta employees think and feel about all this. it has been quiet on the delta side . soe delta employees sent in e-mails to merger@usairways.com and sounded pretty pissed. i liked their candidnes. please tell us what you think. don't hold back .

i am shocked nobody has replied.

I am doubtful it will happen. I would prefer DL go it alone. I have faith that Whitehurst will be named CEO early next year and I think he has the intelligence and leadership that will utlimately lead DL to profitability.
I believe DL's stand alone plan would be less complicated than US's. I believe a US/DL merger would be more detrimental to DL employees, suffering thousands of layoffs on top of the thousands already incurred.
I think US is a good airline with too much to chew as it is with the America West merger. I see too many labor issues unresolved and adding an even bigger carrier would complicate things that much more.
One opinion, but perhaps it might provide some of the insight you inquired about.

one said they will burn in hell before they work for usairways. hasn't no one told them, they will still be working for delta? it's funny because i haven't heard anything on this board from delta employees

these people are pissed. here is another quote
" As much as all of us have been through. I just wanted to say that I will burn in hell before i will work for usairways. If you think that trying to intergrate delta and usairways is possible. You have no idea of the fight that you're going to have if you try"

BURN BABY BURN.

now i really want this thing to go though. just to piss these delta people off. we didn't even get this kind of backlash from the america west people.

Remember Air Tran is always hiring!!!!!!!

I learned a long time ago in the airline industry and in life itself, never say never and the only thing constant is change...

I dont think this will go thru and if it does it will be the death of three great airlines, HP/US and DL all in one fell swoop because of the ego of man, known as Dougie!!

If this proceeds as a hostile takeover nothing can happen until the exclusivity period ends and that is next february and we have until april 15 to have the creditors say yes or no to our own plan - so between now and then alot can happen that could prevent this from happening...I think an NWA buyout would be a better fit with HP/US in terms of route structure, fleet commonality and labor issues...Why buy Delta when you would have to sell part of your assets (shuttle operation) and pare down the operation by 9-10% because of overlapping when you could buy NWA and avoid those issues??

I will definately be wearing my "Keep Delta My Delta" buttons when they are distributed next week..

Really? I think employees (US and DL) are running on pure emotion right now, are frightened, not totally informed, and not considering what a great thing this could be. Removing excess capacity while maintaining levels of service and becoming a leaner, financially strong powerhouse, as well as a force to be reckoned with, is a great deal! Can one imagine actually having JOB SECURITY in the airline industry? After all, wouldn't this add significant value to DL as it stands today? More international gateways, a greater presence in the West, and of course some really cool employees! 😉

I dont think DL employees have not had access to Doug Parker's 3 presentations to DL, citicorp, and US employees, but Ill just highlight a few of the items he spoke about (if you are interested):

- return of 10% of aircraft, with a majority being 50 seat RJs
- *NO* employee furloughs; instead offer leaves and right sized thru attrition (in fact US did the same in the HP/US merge, and we have hired/ recalled 4,000 since....)
- maintain hubs within close proximity of each other to maintain a healthy flow of connections,
- sell Delta shuttle, because the US shuttle includes the BOS-DCA market, while the DL shuttle does not,
-maintain transatlantic gateways in PHL and JFK, significant originating traffic in both major gateways,
-SLC and PHX kept, with SLC growing stronger in North traffic, PHX focusing on South traffic,
- each employee group moved to the *HIGHER* paid employee scale between US and DL,
- NO IDEA where HQ would be
- NO DECISION on Star Alliance/ Skyteam, we would however pick one,
- Synergies in the combination would make us a stronger enterprise going forward, helping us weather, for example, $100 barrel oil, and fierce LCC competition.

I can look up more info from the webcast if anyone is interested, and again, just reporting what was said by DP. All I know is that US (original) was almost dead, and a year later, here we are perhaps more financially stable. This guy just might know what he is talking about. Come to you own conclusions......

I know people are passionate about their respective airline, and anouncements like this bring out overwhelming emotion and fear. (believe me, we at US are going thru it!) Whatever happens, US and DL are two great companies with great employees. I have flown DL many times, and your crews cannot do enough for non revs. US is the same.

Hope this helps......

Except it's not YOUR DELTA anymore. It's the creditors Delta and they will have their say no matter how many buttons you wear.

Your right, Delta and all airlines belong to their creditors, whether in bankruptcy or not, just more so in bankruptcy...but employees have to have the attitude of ownership to make their company work and overcome obstacles...Delta, US and America West all have great employees that have had alot of pride in doing what needed to be done to make their airline the best and while the buyout looks good on paper even Doug has said as an answer to alot of questions - It's too early to tell...and considering that he is backpeddling on alot of labor issues that were promised prior to the HP/US buyout I am very skeptical about what he is saying now...

Oh, DP aint "backpeddling" at all. He fully planned to not give us (labor) anything during combined contract negotiations, famously known as "COST NEUTRAL" negotiating. He is sticking to just that, although I have heard there has been some movement since the DL announcement.....

With regards to merger activity and his powerpoint presentations, I think he has his ducks in a row. Just sayin'......

I have to disagree that it isn't MY Delta anymore. Without the employees no airline would exist. The creditors may hold the paper on the company but the employees make it happen.

So what are my thoughts on a merger. I don't want it to happen with anybody. It would be a mess that does not need to happen. If Dougie wants a bigger airline he should grow his own.

Heard a rumor, one of many, that the Delta employees were going to try and "buy" the airline.

Any truth to that?

I don't mean to get personal here, but I find it fascinating that WT has all but disappeared now that DL is facing a very serious threat. And don't get me wrong, I wish nothing but the best to DL people.

For someone that speaks with such arrogance and certainty, it's nothing but a complete cop-out to go silent now.

I said a few posts back that this industry forces us all to live in glass houses and to be careful about what could come back to bite.

WT - welcome to your glass house. Time to step-up and continue to play the game here. If you don't, then any respect or credibility you had here will be gone.
