According to the weather channel I hear UA has already cancelled at least 150 Flts.
Anyone got any updates & what effect is this having on rest of system ? Please keep us posted...Thanks in advance.

Wasn't DIA suppose to be an "All Weather Airport"?

🙄 🙄 🙄

My favorite line :

"I'm just happy to be alive. It was a terrifying drive," Sara Kelton said of her two-hour crawl over slick, snow-clogged roads to get to the airport.

So it's snowing heavily and Sara decides to go to the airport anyway.

The thought process of people who show up at airports in snow storms eludes me.

"We figured we'd get out, despite the fact it's coming down at the rate of three inches an hour..."

AMTRACK is still running out of Union Station. No seats open going east until after the 25th, but you can get out going west.

I am sure Sara drove at about 20 miles per hour and
then expected to get onto an aircraft and travel
500 miles an hour through the same mess she is
complaining about.

I hear Den will be a mess this coming weekend with the next blizzard on its way. I dont work for UA but Im feeling really bad for your frontline employees. Keep your chins up and the coffee pot switched to the ON position. Good Luck guys! Mama

I live south of DEN, and it's already started. I fear one problem will be the huge drifts that remain from the last storm. Where will the new snow go?

It doesn't matter if you bill yourself as an "all weather" airport. If you don't plan properly in advance of a storm and have all your necessary resources in place, you will be shutdown. It's not such an easy task. Plowing and treating the runways and taxiways is probably the easiest part of it all. Plowing and treating gate/ramp areas is more difficult, especially with aircraft occupying them. The de-icing operation is always a mess. Couple that with shortages of manpower due to people who can't get to work in the storm or who call in sick to avoid the storm, and you have a major mess on your hands. Sometimes airlines wait too long to start pulling down their operation. That makes things worse also.

But billing yourself as an "all weather" airport is really just a neat PR/advertising gimmick. It's all about the planning and the resources.
