US Airways Update
Negotiation - Transformation Plan

To: US Airways Mechanic and Related Employees and Maintenance Training Specialists

Your Negotiation Committee and Representatives from the Grand Lodge, our financial advisor and Legal Counsel continued negotiations with the Company on Monday, Jan 3, 2005. This morning, Jan 5, 2005, we offered a resolution to the Company addressing all of the issues involved. We believe this resolution provides the means for the survival of this Company and also provides for your future job security.

Based on the above, we expect the Company will sign the agreement this afternoon. This agreement is subject to your approval and we expect Judge Mitchell to grant us the time necessary for ratification.

Your continued support has made this possible. We will continue to keep you advised of all future developments as they occur.

Wishing you a better new year,

Sincerely and fraternally,

William O'Driscoll
PRESIDENT-DIRECTING

etops1,

Close, is not a word I would use.

This proposal will be a hard sell no matter who is attempting to sell it.

"As a result of Wednesday's (1/5/05) vote, only the International Association of Machinists, which represents almost 8,500 mechanics, baggage handlers and cleaning crews at the airline, has failed to negotiate a new contract.

The cuts sought by US Airways fall particularly hard on the machinists' union. One of the IAM bargaining units, representing mechanics, would likely lose more than half its jobs if US Airways is allowed to implement the furloughs it is seeking under a new contract.

On Thursday, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stephen Mitchell is expected to rule on the airline's request to nullify the machinists' bargaining agreements, allowing US Airways to impose terms more favorable to management."

After my 3rd layoff (post 9-11), I'm done with USAir. However, I have many friends who I don't want to see on the street - starting over. I would recommend that you folks (IAM) sign-off on some compromise -vs- sinking the ship. I know you've already made many concessions, and the company STILL may liquidate - even with everyone's sacrifices! But, another pay cut is better than no job.

I accepted a 70% paycut in Oct'01 when laid off. I earned less than $36K in 2004 on my new job - so I know that survival is possible on less income. However, I'm in a job that I LOVE! It was easy to be miserable @ USAir. Money isn't everything.

The ball is in the IAM members' court.

EMSAV8R: I would recommend that you folks (IAM) sign-off on some compromise -vs- sinking the ship. I know you've already made many concessions, and the company STILL may liquidate - even with everyone's sacrifices!.....

Doesn't seem like much of a pitch, as even you suggest, however.....

....But, another pay cut is better than no job

Yes, it's been suggested ad-infinitum by kibbitzers inside and out, BUT...earlier in your post.....

...."One of the IAM bargaining units, representing mechanics, would likely lose more than half its jobs if US Airways is allowed to implement the furloughs it is seeking under a new contract"

Again, not much of a pitch..............

Are you wishing ill health or death upon me?

You need to seek some help with posts like the one quoted.

You have no idea of who I am or where I have been for the past three months.

I am perfectly relaxed, there is no T/A and probably won't be one. People have miscontrued the IAM bulletin as there is a T/A. The IAM gave the company a comprehensive proposal and they are awaiting a response.
