I recently made a trip from Medellin Columbia to Dresden, Germany with Air Canada. Everything went okay until the last leg from Frankfurt to Dresden, which in fact was not with Air Canada but Lufthansa. Actually when I saw the itinerary I thought this is could be a problem and I was correct, I missed the flight from Frankfurt to Dresden. It was only 70 minutes to get the connecting flight from Frankfurt-Dresden. But I know Frankfurt, it can take up to 20 minutes to get to the correct airport gate, it's a big Airport. Plus it normally takes 10 minutes or so to exit the aircraft. Plus say 10 minutes passport control. So that leaves only about 40 minutes, which in theory is possible, but it depends on the circumstances. So when I got to security there was a massive queue of about 200 people and only 4 security machines working out of 8. So I realised then, there was no way I was gonna get to the flight on time and I missed it. So I went to the Lufthansa desk and they told me they are not obliged to re-book me as original booking was with Air Canada. I will have to pay again, which was quite a shock since it was on the same ticket. Anyway I went to Lufthansa customer service and they were a bit more helpful and they rebooked me for free, although it was a a long wait, spent virtually the whole day in Frankfurt as next available flight wasn't until late afternoon. So I thought with such a long delay, I might be entitled to compensation under European rules ,but apparently was told this is not the case as the last leg was with a different airline not Air Canada. I find this a bit surprising since the ticket was booked with Air Canada, so I don't know where I stand at the moment, anyone got any opinion on this?
