DL is flying one 767 a day into PVD this week from ATL. The flights are full as can be. I hope this experiment works well and we will see the 767s on a regular basis in PVD. Currently 757s are the largest aircraft we see on a regular basis (DL, UA, US).

Hey, DL, good for you!
Meanwhile, another carrier with a large presence in New England has full and oversold flights on just about every flight as spring break winds down there. While that carrier does not have the wide body lift that DL has, it does have a larger versions of the narrow body jets that it flies. The carrier could have swapped aircraft (still flown by the same crews) but has, of course. not done so.

I wouldn't think that Delta was in the habit of experimenting with routings these days. I can see if they knew if something was going on, but to have a spare 767 just sitting around to do experiments is a big gamble. Jus my thoughts......

The reason for this flight was the elimination of DL Express. Delta had two DL Express flights to MCO from PVD until last summer. Those flights were available for booking up until the very end. The spring break week had sold out flights that were pulled. These people were put on flights to ATL which had to be upgraded to 767 to accomodate the extra passengers.

Therefore DL knew far in advance that these flights would have to be operated by 767.

However, it does prove that PVD can fill a 767 to ATL. I think the 8 AM could easily work as a 767. It is always a 757 as it is.

This summer every airline serving PVD has expanded service with the exception of DL and UA. I think DL is making a big mistake. The summer is the largest passenger months for PVD. DL operated 757s on all flights all winter but has switched to M80s for most flights this summer.

DL is close to losing the #3 spot in PVD to AA who has added flights to ORD, DFW, and RDU since last summer.
