DL pilots reach agreement to Merge with NW

When are they going to get "permission" from the ground staff, F/A's, MTC, etc?

I think we all know they don;t need it and maybe the Delta pilots might realize that there only chance for huge increases is keeping the planes fueled. The fact that the were able to get an increase in this environment is a miracle in itself.

finally an educated cat.

A piece free merger advice, been there done that.

Make no attempt or even an announcement of a plan to merge the certificates and operations. Operate for 3 years as two separate airlines owned by one company.
Merge things like airport locals, equipment, real estate, HQ, payroll, HR, even FF programs etc. but do nothing with the MX programs unions or FAA. After all of that has been done you will be in a much better position to decide which way to go as far as a real merger of the operation. That will give the unions plenty of time to see if they can find any common ground and that will also keep you from making hasty decision because of a timeline. And please O' please, adopt a best practices policy when you do merge, do not adopt programs and processes just because the bigger or louder side will scream too much. Nor keep doing things just because you have done them that way for 20 years!

The above...has a "familiar ring"....................................ala....US/PI !

NO matter HOW you look at it, this is a BAD deal for NW people.....Except NW pilots !!!

Some examples;

Anderson could merge the F/A's.....AMT's....Agents.....Rez....from both carriers, ..Tomorrow, FORCE a Union/NO Union vote, and prevail with NO Union from those groups, because the numbers favor DL in those job areas.

The Pilots ARE in the same Union in both !

BUT,

At present, the NW rampers hold a significant edge in staying union.

But thats NOW !

Once DL is calling the shots,..............PRESTO,.....Anderson(WHO "knows NW inside and out") starts whittling away at the ramp numbers of medium NW Union stations, ultimately forcing the NW rampers into DTW, and a MUCH smaller...MSP/MEM.

DL has SHOWN that they have NO desire to have their mainline employees work Air Cargo.

(SADLY) I could Easily see, Anderson...SCREWING with NW's HUGE A/F operation in ANC.

Back to the HUBS for a second.
Once that BASTARD has the "numbers" in the Hubs(and a few Large non Hub stations like LGA, .....PRESTO(again), he then calls for a representative Election, SURE that he has the larger numbers to prevail .

HEY,.....I don't NEED to suggest to ALL NW employees,..............(minus the Pilots), that you ALL need to ensure that this Sh!tty deal,......NEVER sees the "light of day" !

I personally saw those Rejects from DLG(delta's LOW COST "claim to fame" operation) work 767's(pushing/towing/loading Widebodys),.....in BDL, .................SO again I say,..................DO NOT let this ABORTION come to fruition !!!!!!!!

NHBB--First off, I don't think Anderson can force a union vote. Secondly, as far as FAs are concerned, the numbers are there to win a union vote. DL already had well over 50% of their FAs sign AFA authorization cards and we are going to be voting starting in about 12 days.
Combine those numbers w/ NW FAs and voila---you have a unionized FA workforce.
I don't know about the other groups.
Secondly, just how are NW (non-pilot) employees going to stop this thing from happening? And finally, for those who say that NW employees don't want this, most of the NW FAs I know are absolutely FOR it.

A union might make it into the hangar at Delta, but no way it will be AMFA. Not after the way they handled the whole NW fiasco. Even though we arent union, the scabs certainly wont be made welcome.

How can NW non pilots grind this thing to a halt.

With Jim Oberstar in tow, ....A LOT of Chaos !!!

A BOLD move I agree,.......But not Impossible.

BY the way LUKE,...............I "HOPE and PRAY" you deltoids ARE successful in organizing your F/A group.(see, we DO have something in common)

The NW...Agents/Rez/ and AMT's...don't have a prayer staying union, if this ABORTION takes hold, and Anderson knows "just what to do" to change the "numbers" in his favor as far as the ESE's(FSC'S) go.

And FINALLY, NW...does NOT NEED to do this thing.

With the LONE exception of SA, DL brings NOTHING to BIG REDS table.(KLM flies to anywhere DL is flying to over the Atlantic) !!!!!!!!!!!!

And FINALLY- FINALLY, if this "thing" starts to look like it's a go, Expect AA to "BID UP" the deal, to make DL...pay through the NOSE !

(It's times like this, that I PRAY CRANDALL was still "up on the bridge") !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats too comical.... Have you even looked at a DL route map?
Why did NW go crawling back to DL ? Because DL brings Nothing?

" And FINALLY- FINALLY, if this "thing" starts to look like it's a go, Expect AA to "BID UP" the deal, to make DL...pay through the NOSE ! "

----I think AA has more to worry about keeping their planes in the air than to distract
everyone with a false bid.

---you mean the bridge of the Titanic!

DAL Mech,

I disagree with this statement. Several furloughed DAL amts that were furloughed from DL in '05 gained employment during the Northwest/AMFA strife. Not only were they welcomed back to DL with open arms, they have been rehired by DL and are working overtime out the "ying-yang"!

With oil being what it is and 3 airlines going out of biz, one today (Frontier) going into CH. 11, let's just see what Oberstar does. He needs to face facts : the days of his constituency getting cheap airfares off the backs of airline employees is over. He's just posturing because it's an election year. Also, a former Justice Dept official, retired, was interviewed in an article and said he would see no problem with the combo as there is little overlap.
Finally, if you check some of the other threads, the issue of AA bidding up the price of NW has already been addressed--they ain't got the dough (in your speak) and they have enough on their plates right now w/ the MD80s, their pilots putting up anti-company billboards, their FAs giving them a tongue-lashing over safety at a public event and the like. Again, NHBB--with all due respect, you are living in the past. This is a new era in this industry. It's not 1991 when AA bid up the PanAm Atlantic routes.

Err..............given the current situation at AA, I don't think they're in a position to do anything but lick their wounds !

AA bidding-up, as you put it, is nothing more than wishful thinking on your part !

Who says they need permission.............at Delta or NW ?

ummm... it was sarcasim, they are bending over backwards to apease the pilots
and as far as the rest of us.......we are not in the equation.

Laughable statement. AA is doing everything it can just to stay afloat right now. Airlines don't make money when their aircraft can't even get off the ground.
