Does anyone remember Gangwal’s Plan B From Outer Space following the failure of Plan A (the merger with United)? It was so ridiculous we hoped that was why Gangwal was “fired.â€￾ Plan B from outer space included outlandish projections for the future USAIR like:

1. the complete elimination of MetroJet
2. 400 or so RJs, and
3. employee wages equivalent to Continental, AmericaWest, or Airtran.

And do you remember how silent the company was after Gangwal left? The unions were ringing the phone off the hook at Crystal City trying to give Wolf as many concessions as they could, because the employees wanted to help save the airline.

However, Wolf decided to ignore the employees and the company until they both were in desperate straights. When the company and the employees were in desperation (about six months later), the White Segull arrived in shining armor, and most people were just happy to finally have someone who really cared about them. He shook their hand and wore Austin Powers costumes. He was such a “man of the little guy!â€￾ But of course Segull had to leave because the unions lost confidence in him.

So now Lakefield is finally here. He is an “honestâ€￾ man. He sits down to dinner with the employees. Finally, he is the one who will break the mold of a long lineage of liars. By golly he is our “colleague.â€￾ (He said so in his latest letter.)

Has anyone missed the fact that USAir employees would consider living in Plan B from Outer Space an improvement from present conditions?

Lakefield is well on his way to implementing Plan C from Hades. If the employees agree to Plan C then they will bring in a new guy who really cares about you and your job and he will implement Plan D.

and at what cost will it be to the employees to get this airline turned around is the mystery. if bronner wasnt in charge i think that this airline would be better and may be not even close to bankrupt again who knows.

You are absolutely correct. TPG would have been our equity investor and they have a very successful track record of turning airlines around.
