As was noted in another posting, MSY station employees will have burn vacation time if they want to be paid for days not worked while the station is closed. Another posting notes that MSY employees are being offered TDY (temp duty) in other stations (don't know if the company will pay for their hotels.)
In the past, the company has allowed station employees to donate vacation days to another employee unable to work due to extraordinary circumstances (i.e. child with a serious disease.)
While there is an MSY employee relief fund, some employees whose own budgets are stretched by paycuts and rising gas prices may not be able to give as much as they would like. Donating one or more vacation days might be a "pain free" way to help out.
(Of course, the company would need to approve such a plan.)
