Agreed. Kremlin should be fired for
his role in keeping the US hub in PHL
rather than PIT. He should have known
it was impossible to have good customer
service in PHL.

If U is in bankruptcy restructuring (Ch. 11) could they make an argument that their hiring practices at PHL over the past decade is an insurmountable obstacle that requires mass firings or closure of the hub simply to get rid of the dysfunction? Even if the the 'sick calls' were not the proximate cause of all the fiasco this weekend, surely, it's an intolerable break down of integrity.... especially when you know that folks that were gold-bricking had the opportunity to realize that they were not just carelessly, thoughtlessly taking a break, but were actively contributing to the ruination of passengers' holidays and to the active disrespect of their co-workers and, presumably, friends.

I mean to say, when you demonstrate suck a lack of integrity and lack of fidelity, aren't you basically quitting?

I agree partially that Crellin needs to go. I understand though the manpower numbers for PHL included folks out on long term disability (injured backs, knees) etc. Some formula was used to calculate bodies to aircraft movements and there became the staffing number with probably a third of that number on disability--no available to work. There was some layoffs too..personnel moved from mainline to mainline-express. A recipe for disaster when the flight schedule is increased as it was when PIT became a "focus" city--whatever the hell that means. Crellin and the entire supervisory staff a PHL should be fired immediately that supplied CCY with these numbers. Let's look at the rest of the orchestra though...

Lakefield..I.m sure is a cracker jack investment banker but sure isnt an airline man...CEO of an airline should be a person that understands completely the 24-7 operation of an airline..what it takes to put 1 aircraft in the air for 1 segment. My impression of him is that he is trying to act but acting only on the script supplied to him by others.

Baladensa/Marketing..My impression of him..couldnt spell airplane if you spotted him the -air- and the -plane-. This airline never markets the way our competition does. I know several travel agents who said that only info they get from U is email type fliers..never get a sales call from a rep. One didnt even realize U flies to Santo Domingo or Aruba. Go Fares only go so far. Web site is for savy computer folks..not for 80 yr old grandma wanting to fly to Florida for the holidays. There are key travl people out there that DONT KNOW HALF OF THE DESTINATIONS WE FLY TOO. This is because there is very little marketing done of the product.

????/Maintenance...not sure who this is anymore. HELLO..losing the 180min ETOPS on the B767 is going to be HUGE loss and a major operational hinderance but appears on the surface that it stirs little interest in CCY. The aircraft are filthy. The B767s need a major overhaul of the interior as does the B733/734. Several 767s parked at the gate at PHL look like third world type carrier was operating them..looked tired/only thing missing was the puddles of oil under the engines that are commonly seen with 3rd class carriers (charter companies) operating other airlines' hand-me-downs.

Unions...you all share the blame in this...when times were good/contract time was a time to get more pay/less work type contracts with severe work rule hinderance. Everyone wants WN's contracts as they are the highest paid now in the industry but none wants thier work rules. This blame however goes to past regimes (Colodny/Schofield). Always give into the unions because they were so afraid of a work stoppage. Deregulation has changed all this. The public wants to fly for $49.00. Something has to give if fuel is high, rents/landing fees are high, pensions need to be funded, healthcare premiums going through the roof. The LCCs dont have to fund any pensions/they dont have any to fund.

To our brother legacy carriers..U's demise is rapidly approaching now from what happened over the holidays...You all may be smiling/rubbing your hands in glee one of your competitors will be gone. The fact remains...costs...they will be after your work rules/retirements in due time..its only a matter of time my friends. As costs go up at WN..your turn in the barrel is raidly coming as well.

To the government....How about a level playing field for promoting competition. LCC.s can cherry pick thier routes/city pairs..the legacies still have essential air serives to cover (like IPT/AOO/JST/MSS) just to name a few. Dont see WN starting servicwe to MSS anytime soon (MSS-Massena, NY). They dont have huge pensions to fund and some get special agreements from the localities for service to thier cities (Look at Ric trying to get WN there).

If they fire Al Crellin whose fault will it be then? If you have no one to blame or scapegoat then it means it must be YOU who needs to be held accountable.

If some replaces Mr. Crellin who actually knows how to do the job, and not set at a desk scratching his head and taking up space, it would be a different story.

If the managers are short staffed because the VP of OPS said no to getting people replaced and no to OT then who is responsible? I'm not going to say BLAME, but who is responsible for this fiasco? Why is the staffing levels at such that 3 people calling out (2 sick and 1 death) leaves 1 person to work the counter and 4 agents to work the gates after 4pm. No supervisors scheduled (one quit and one is out on OJI) and no one scheduled to replace them. 4 open lines scheduled and no one authorized to cover them. Meanwhile 10 of us sit here getting part time 4 hours a day while we continue to work short. Who's fault, oops, who is responsible for that?
