Hi there, we are having a discussion about the flight duty times in Scandinavia, where the powers that be have decided to reduce maximum times for EMS pilots to 400 hours in 365 consecutive days. We were wondering if there are similar rules here in Canada for flight duty times for EMS pilots. Read the other one aout the fires with interest, so hope some of ya'll give us a word.

Thanx in Advance!

When I worked in EMS and I believe it's still the case today. There isin't a total flight time restriction, you would be hard pressed to reach 500 hrs per year flying EMS in Ontario.

There is a 14 hr duty day restriction imposed by Transport Canada and the company. Normally you would be scheduled for a 12-hour shift. The PIC can extend the duty day to 14 hrs for extenuating circumstances.

Anyone else have 2 cents?

Yup.......No special duty or hour restrictions for EMS in Canada. I have never heard of an EMS operation even coming close to the basic CARS restrictions. I was averaging 120 hours a year for the past few years. The bigger problem here is not getting tired but staying current.
