Embarasing Moments

I won't even start to assume why this accident happened but it just reminds me of all the times I flew ( as a passenger) in twin otters to and from exploration camps in the arctic. What a friggin gong show that was!!!!
I couldn't confirm if we were overgross because I don't know how much that stuff weighs but the scary part is that neither do the pilots!!!!
It seems like the motto was "load her up until we run out of room!!!!" The other thing that I found perplexing is that many times the load wasn't secured in any maner!!!! I don't think my seat belt would've helped me in an accident, we would've been crushed by a few thousand pounds of crap!!!
How come transport never makes surprise visits to those loading docks in Yellowknife anyways!??!

i think they did do surprise inspections at one point. They'd sit up on the hill and do rough calculations as to what was going in, or they'd probably watch the line on the floats (which we know is a calibrated line for both CofG and weight 😀 )

I commend the twin otter as a great aircraft for being relatively forgiving when it's overloaded. Statistically, they don't crash all that often considering that a huge percentage of their flights are 'guestimated' gross weights. I think drillergrams would be more accurate of a measure

I personally hated being on backhaul flights. You got fit in like an extra drum of fuel, and wasn't it fun when the empties would 'pop' as your altitude increased. Scares the crap out of you the first time.

Most of the loads I was in were secured between the roof, floor and forward and rear bulkheads. Where were they really going to go?
