With the switch of the Charlotte-London service to Heathrow, today marks the end of US Airways flights to LGW, over 25 years after PI started flying there. It was the last US carrier to serve the airport. After the Bermuda II in 1977 agreement between the US and UK in liberalised air service , US carriers started flocking to Gatwick until almost every major could be seen there.

While LHR certainly has more connecting markets, there are many people who prefer Gatwick to very busy and crowded Heathrow.
