Evolution less accepted in the U.S.

Truth is, we don't know precisely how anesthesia really works. But we do know how to wake 'em up. 🙄

Thats some amazing stuff (anesthesia), been put under several times and the waking up part really sux but its better than the alternative. 😱

I've always likened my job to the aviation industry. We're like a pilot in that like take off/landing, going to sleep and waking a patient up are the dangerous times in an anesthetic -- but if we "crash" there's only one pax.

We're also like FAs in that we deal closely with people every day. Only in my job, when a patient becomes annoying or bothersome, we push drugs and the problem immediately stops.

I've not had any crashes in 32 years. Only had anesthesia myself one time for a frozen shoulder. A quick go-to-sleep, yank on the arm like the Three Stooges, and wake up and look at the clock and go home 30 minutes later experience. Better living through drugs.

There's lots of science in the job, but essentially it's about common sense and intution sprinkled with science. And the patients are mostly very interesting people when you speak to them.
