Express Pulls Out Hagerstown

All the more reason for the air taxi revolution that will serve these small communities on-demand in the 6 person VLJs (very light jets). If the price is right, people will pay. Robert Crandal(former AA CEO) is heading up one of the largest acquirers of these jets because he sees it as the next step in personal air transport. At about $1M per jet, the operating costs are low enough to charge a reasonable fare that only gets better when you have a few people.

No, silly. The point of the VLJs is to be able to fly in and out of the smaller General Aviation fields to avoid the congestion of the major airports. TEB is a great alternative to LGA, as is CDW or Linden, NJ (don't have that identifier handy). All the major cities have numerous small fields that are often closer to businesses/office parks, too.

While we're on this side issue, it'll be interesting to see how this "air taxi" service works out.....

My guess is that it will be the next phase of corporate travel (and semi-high rollers). In other words, the folks who can't justify the cost of fractional ownership/time sharing a bigger plane but can justify somewhat higher costs than the airlines charge for walk-up.

This is probably true. It's very interesting to watch how the market segmentation is shaping up.

Dragging this topic up- apparantly Mesa/Air Midwest extended the service until May I think, and the DOT reclassified HGR so that it is eligible for EAS funds and carriers may submit their applications for 2 daily RTs. Apparantly with the law change of 'nearest alternative airport by driving distance' to 'nearest alternative airport by most commonly travelled driving distance', HGR fell outside 70 miles from IAD and now may get EAS money. Not sure who will apply for it, and to which airport. All the info was in the local HGR paper today, so it is all from memory, and thus may not be exactly right.
