What's new

First Mesa,....Now Pinnicle ?

Interesting.... Thanks for the background info.

NWA isn't my first job, either. It may suprise you to read that I actually work harder here than I did at 2 other non-union carriers.

The fact is, at NWA there's no fat left to cut. The lazy people you describe (and that person exists at every company/in every industry in the US) are taken care of very swiftly by those on their own crews, as no one can afford to have anyone else skate by.

Kev, that was a great post. I think that a lot of non union folks seriously believe that if you have a union you can just slack off and do not have any consequences. That is not the case at all. Like you said, even if anyone tried it, their co-workers would (should) put a stop to it.

Yes their co-workers would (should) put a stop to it. Have you ever seen a union employee get put on the street.......and stay there (like they should be).

Yes I have. You are hooked on the fact that the union defends all of its employees equally and not just the ones hanging out under the managers desk. The union makes sure that if you are accused of wrong doing, there are facts to warrant disciplinary action. They ensure all employees have due process and are not ridden out of town because of company politics. I have worked with NWA for a few years now and know that the union men and women at NWA can and will run circles around any of non-union nay sayers who are all too busy kissing up to management when they should be out on the line getting the job done. Sound familiar coney.

I have. I worked in management for a major corporation for 10 years during the 90's. Though I disliked seeing someone terminated, I have had to put underperforming union employees on the street. In my working history, that was one of THE best run, highly productive places of employment that I have ever been affiliated with. With exception to management, the employees were 100% unionized.

For years I never thought about unionization one way or the other. But in one meeting that I attended, a "higher up-high strung" management type was giving his "Move Forward" speech and stated that if it weren't for the union, he would "take it to some of those guys!" It was then that I realized that the union was not a luxury, it was a neccessity. Even though I was a part of management, I found a respect for unions. I've also found that everyone, EVERYONE has some pride about themselves, whether they admit it or not. In my former management duties, I've turned several of those "undesirables" around, actually encouraged them to NOT want to perform a bad job. It's simply the 80/20 concept. Eighty percent of the employees are going to be standard/overachievers and the other twenty percent are going to need constant supervision or recurrent training. If they failed, I failed.

Riddle me this: Why do the most educated people at this airline, management and the pilots, have a contract with the company?

Why does this airline continuously state: "Delta employees generally make better wages and benefits than their Northwest counterparts", when this is not true?

Yes I have. Off the top of my head, I can think of three.

I've said it time and time again on here, but apparently it bears repeating; if a company has airtight case, there's not a whole lot a union can do. The things is, most of the time they don't put forth the time and effort required to do so. Allegations without proof are just that; allegations.

It also seems to have been forgotten that the company, and not the union, does all the hiring and firing. So if you're surrounded by layabouts and lackwits, look no further than your company's HR department.

As for NW specifically, please show me any evidence that being unionized somehow entitles people to be lazy. Anything concrete will do. Otherwise, you are merely trafficking in stereotypes, and outdated ones at that.

Thanks for the kind words! 🙂

Again I am only stating my opinions and experiences,I can not speak for all unions ,only the ones I have worked for, and have talked to people face to face about.

I have seen plenty of people put on the street who should have stayed there but didn't because of the union.

I am sorry if I offended anyone here . I am only going by personal experience .
I have yet to work with most of you, and look forward to having the chance ,and have meaningful discussions together.
