I will be flying for the first time this summer and am nervous about the experience. Is it possible to tell the Flight Attendants I am nervous and they could sit with me for a few minutes? Thank you.

Yes, you can tell them you are a first time flyer. No, they will probably not have the time (or the seat available) to sit with you. They have very specific duties required by the FAA during boarding and after leaving the gate. I am assuming you are flying Southwest on this trip. The a/c will probably be full. Let your seatmates know, also. More than likely, they will be happy to help calm your nerves.

Yes, yes, yes. Identify as a nervous, first time flyer.

I'm always happy to answer questions, provide a little extra attention, and it's even ok to ask to meet the pilots. We may not have the luxury of tons of time, but most of us are good for some reassurance. Yes, FAA regs are part of our job, but within that context, pax comfort is also in my job description.

Good for you for flying. We're glad to have you.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. I have to use a wheelchair and want to take my controller off before they store it under the plane. I have tools to do this and am I going to be able to keep my tools in my carry on? They are wheelchair related. Also, can I keep my digital camera in my carry on? Thank you.

Depends on the type and size of tools. Generally, the TSA now allows common tools that are less than 7" in length to be carried on. Larger than that will probably have to be checked.

Digital camera - must be in carryon. Never, I repeat, NEVER check any valuables or anything the loss of which would cause you distress. TSA and airline employees, unfortunately, have been known to pilfer things from checked bags. The only thing in your checked bags should be clothing and large liquids that are over 3.4 oz (and thus, cannot be carried on).

Well, I have certainly made an a$$ of myself and I do apologize.
Do not worry too much as I have met several SWA FA’s that are the nicest people you could want to know.
Best to you on your maiden flight.
It may not be uneventful, but take it with a grain of salt, anything worth doing is seldom easy.

Take Care,

My advice is to remember that the most dangerous part of flying is driving to the airport.
