just curious if any flight crew member can recommend a tax preparation service, especially for phl based crew?

pm's would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to ask Tom Daschle who he used. Or just write down any old numbers and then say your sorry when you get audited. What a bunch of crap.

Airline crews have language specific to them in the tax code regarding expenses. Most tax preparers are not familiar with those rules unless they have taken the time to research them when they acquire an airline crew member client.

hence my initial question...

And if I knew someone in PHL that could help you, I certainly would have sent you the information. If you're in the Fort Lauderdale area, I can help with a great CPA contact.

You have to understand...I find it really difficult to pass up the smart-*** answer. That's why I have vacationed in the corn field on occasion.

With all due respect legacy to LCC unless there are specific rules that apply to airline employees you should be able to handle your own tax return.

I've been doing mine for years.
with all due respect, piney bob, there ARE indeed specific rules and deductions that apply to flight crew specifically. which is why i, regrettably, used this forum to inquire about possible service providers.

The pre diem rules specific to airlines are where it gets tricky

Or at least a record keeping headache. The rules are relatively simple - there are other parts of the full 1040 that are as complicated. The hassles ar separating high per diem cities from low per diem cities (you can take the single "average" per diem rate if it benefits you), and separating per diem payments into non-taxable and taxable (the company does the separation using one method but that may not be as beneficial as another method).

I should note, since everyone may not have seen the CBS message, that the taxable/non-taxable per diem amounts are reversed on the W-2's and that corrected ones are gonna be sent out.
