OK, so this is an attempt to take a breather from all of the panic about airlnes and oil.

The three surviving "legacy" airlines are now reeling from their efforts to remain in business in light of oil topping $12,000 per barrel yesterday. Only Dalla-based Southwest Airlines continues to show a profit as they continue to take advantage of their long-term fuel hedges at $1.27 per barrel for 90% of their fuel requirements. The remaining 10% is hedged from contracts purchased in 2008 at a mere $190 per barrel.

USAirways announces a re-engining program based on research into rubber band powered engines. The firt version, the RB 1- powered by 10,000 rubber bands, produced 120 pounds of thrust for eight seconds. "They asuured us the numbers will come up" an executive said anonymously.
