I've heard rumblings that the new jets don't have much luggage space and that oversize stuff cannot be picked up at the gate, as is usually done on Express flghts.

True?

bofie-

There is another thread where this was discussed, I think it's "Anyone flying the EMB this week?"

As Embraer likes to point out, there is more carry on space per customer than the A320 family- per VOLUME. From what I see there is a lot of underseat space and legroom, but the overhead space is not quite as big as other narrowbodies. Not all rollaboards fit in the bins.

On mainline, when this happens, you check your bag, it goes below and you pick it up at baggage claim. Only strollers and wheelchairs come up to the jetway. On Express, where all other aircraft accomodate no rollaboards, you check it planeside and get it back planeside.

Apparently they are doing it the mainline way on Embraer 170 flights. This is just more brand confusion. Is it express or is it mainline? Its hard enough for employees to sort out, it must be a nightmare for customers. Its Express but you dont pick up your carry on items. Its Express but you leave out of the mainline gates in PHL and PIT. I'd be annoyed if I went to the PHL F Terminal (where signage directs you to "all US Airways Express flights") only to find its leaving out of the D terminal.

I think customers would be less confused with the EMB just being US Airways, with an all coach cabin. For a while we were flying US Airways Shuttles in mainline flights with all-coach configuration, and Metrojet was single class but that didnt make it US Airways Express. If the EMB product remains an Express brand (which would be even sillier if we get its larger siblings, the 175, 190 or 195) then they need to bring the luggage onto the jetway.

As I replied on that Thead.... My Standard Flight Attendant issued Rollaboard DID fit in the Overhead with NO PROBLEMS.... Overhead is Lond but not Wide... IE I can fit my rollaboard in the overheads of the AirBus and Some Boeings with the Handle sticking out... Would not be able to do that on EMB 170...... Noticed some Pax with Large Garmet Bags come on Too.... Didn't see those removed !!!!

MAA is just another express operation operated by furloughed mainline pilots. The same as the rest of the express operation. It was just another way for the mainline pilots to cause the the company to spend more.....ooops less maney to pay the furloughed pilots and flight attendants

You are right Passed Over, and I would bet that once the real word is out about MAA that very few Mainline F/A's would jump into this pile of ####. If you would actually live in Pit with firm roots and don't care what the hell you are doing, then I could see some taking the bait with MAA. I for one, won't. I don't care how great this new airplane looks, all in all it is just another airplane. I remember when we got the Airbus. Big Whoop. I hate that plane. It is a peice of junk. Give me the DC-9's, MD-80's, 727's and even the Folkers over this Airbus crap. Already there have been numorous delays due to mechanical. What a joke. Ain't going there.

ktflyhome,

Are things at MAA really that bad? What have you heard or experienced that make you doubt many mainline f/as will be going?

There are many of us in the dark about what is going on there. Can you shed some light? (Details please!)

I agree with you on the Airbus mechanicals. The only reason
WOLFGang purchased the A319 series aircraft is because they
recieved quick delivery positions and a low price per aircraft.
Airbus was just scratching the surface with market share in the
U.S. at the time of the Airbus purchase and they sold them below
cost to attain market share. They are throw away planes after
15 years which is currently the lease terms that most airlines
are agreeing to with Airbus. They were not designed for the
long haul which Boeings and MCD products were. I only hope
that the EMB-170/90 family was designed to last more than
15 years, but I am not hopeful. The A319 family has proven
to be less reliable than B-737, 757, and 767 in the long term
and the maintenance costs will far outweigh any up front
savings that were achieved in the purchase cost.

You have a Point here...But, The one thing that a lot of Furloughees are looking at is the fact that they would actually hold a Decent Seniority with MAA.... Like we'd Ever see a Line before we turned 60+ at U  ... What are the choices for those that are on furloughee and want to go back out flying.... Get a job with Another Carrier... All that are hiring are Express this and Express that.... Southwest is Actually Hiring .... But, again how long would it take to see a Line ?? So, it is real toss up between.... Do I want to hold a Line and FINALLY be able to move back home or do I start with ANOTHER Carrier and hope to someday be out of God Knows where next !!!!! 😉 True the Medical Sucks right now with MAA .... But hey I don't have any right now Anyway... Yep, We are VERY CAREFUL these days....
So, Guess it Truly IS up to the INDIVIDUAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Off to MYR.... See, being Furloughed isn't All that BAD !!!!!

Almost Forgot .................. Happy Easter to Everyone !!!!!!!!!!! B)

I heard US routinely has a courier drive baggage to it's destination on the Pit/Cle run not enough room in cargo area.

Does anyone know how the res system will work for MDA, will it be that of the eagle contract or the S and R system at mainline?
