Government Healthcare

How does that compare to an American John Doe who has the SAME problem, but he has a wife and 3 kids and his insurance company DENIES coverage? It happens a lot here. In that case, I suppose he can try to take out a second mortgage on his home (or sell it) and hope the equity is enough to cover cash services. Is it better that a company made a profit by doing basically the same thing? For every case like this, there are cases where treatments that ARE covered under "socialized medicine" in other countries are routinely denied by US insurance companies because they are "experimental" or the treatment is not the "primary" course of treatment. I wonder...if a Canadian...even THIS Canadian were told that they were dropping his "socialized" health care in favor of the system in place in the US, would he grab it with open arms? Or would he rather have 90% of his health care needs met and pay cash in another country for procedures that were either denied or the waiting list was too long. Also...another interesting fact - in Ontario, if Canadian medicine cannot address the problem, the Canadian government will send them to another country (the US maybe) and PAY for the coverage. Who paid for this guys operation?

Are people dying in Canada at a higher per-capita rate than those in the US?

When the pharmaceuticals were talking about the drugs being smuggled across the boarder you would have thought the Canadians were dropping like flies and it just did not merit a news cycle.

Just in case you could not find it I found the info here:

CIA Fact Sheet.

US

8.26 deaths/1,000 population (2007 est.)

CA

7.86 deaths/1,000 population (2007 est.)

It would appear that even though they have the absolute worst health care i the world they manage to keep more of those damn Canadians alive than we do. They need to start killing more of theor people on the table or just let them die in the waiting room to catch up. COME ON CANADA. WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT>

I can't believe you're using GW CIA information.....

Did you consider that the US has a little over 9 times the population of Canada? 😱

We also have more than 9 times the number of doctors, hospitals, neonatal centers....

Is the CIA info incorrect?

What part of "per capita" are you missing?

Everyone one wants 'Free' healthcare......will it be worth it?

Case in point........

Sounds like it works quite well 'across the border'.Ask Hillary and the Big 'O'.
It is good that his father-in-law died so that they had the money to pay for the $28,000 operation. Or if his father-in-law hadn't met his demise - there's always the second mortgage route. They still didn't address how coverage in the US is any different when an insurance company doesn't tell them to wait...but only tells them they won't cover it. I suppose someone could sue their insurance company. And...as I said - we have over 9 times the number of doctors, MRI centers, hospitals and other facilities that we don't really know that long waits will be the norm.

But I guess what gets me is that there is this illusion that us "liberals" want a system just like Canada's. That's wrong. We want something better. If people want private insurers, they should be able to pay for it just like they do now...but I wonder...if the government says they have to wait, and the private insurers say they won't cover, will folks be happy with that?

What would have been a little better balanced would be to ask the fellow if he'd trade what he has in Canada for what we have in the US...remember...he had to pay out of pocket - just like he was unisured. And he hasn't really experienced an insurance company telling him that they won't cover.

For those of you who won't pay to see a Michael Moore movie, I'll let you in on something..."Sicko" was not about the uninsured...it was about fully insured folks getting NOTHING for their money. Not told they have to wait...just told they can either take out a second mortgage, or hope dad dies soon and leaves them an inheritance if they want their treatment. I think if you gave a Canadian a choice like that, most would be happy with what they have.

Better you may wish but better you won't get.I distinctly remember the H Clinstone and her 'closed door hearings' and words like "quality of life" and "agewise, not needing the procedure".

With the ongoing debates we have daily about the frailties and incompetence of our government....how can one be so foolhearty to trust the care of ones own life and health to the same fools?

Buy into the mantra my Liberal friend....buy in....

You don't know what you got until its gone....

Speaking of closed door hearings...what were the results of that "energy task force" Cheney was heading up?

So...you're telling me that Cigna will approve brain tumor surgery on a 90 year old man? Or pay for ongoing care for a person in a constant vegetative state (paging Terri Schiavo)? I mean, Ms. Schiavo fell into a coma on February 5, 1990 and Prudential terminated insurance coverage on June 30, 1990.

Not to be the 'fly in the ointment', but the role of the CIA, (Black Ops), and FBI were ment to be seperate because of confilcting interests.

What does oil hearings have to do with anything in this thread Bush Lover?

Only that you mentioned Hillary's "closed door hearings" about health care. Cheney had some "closed door hearings" for his "energy task force"...and oddly enough, we end up in a war smack dab over the second largest oil reserves in the world. Inquiring minds want to know if those closed door hearings had anything to do with invading Iraq.
