Investigator: Nearly 50,000 prison inmates claim tax refunds but report no wages to IRS

Nearly 50,000 prison inmates claimed more than $130 million in tax refunds this year without providing any wage information to the IRS, a government investigator says in a report to be released Thursday.
The Treasury inspector general for tax administration stops short of saying the refunds were fraudulently claimed. It does, however, say the Internal Revenue Service should investigate further.

Gee, ya think?

6 Hidden Gems in the Deficit Commission Report

1) The federal government is horribly managed.
2) Health reform's cost savings apparently were bogus.
3) Millions of workers don't pay into Social Security.
4) The tax code is a hopeless, loophole-riddled mess.
5) Obama is a big spender.
6) It's actually not that hard to cut the deficit.

The tax reform plan, for example, is modeled on the reforms enacted under President Ronald Reagan, which also lowered and simplified income tax rates in exchange for cutting back on a thicket of tax loopholes.

Hope and Change

As of today, the American taxpayer is now on the hook for an additional $1.2 billion of payments to black “farmers,” whom did not have to provide proof of:

-Having ever farmed or having attempted to farm

-Having ever had a loan at the USDA

-Having ever filled out paperwork for a farm loan

-Having ever attempted to get a loan.

The only burden of proof requirement was filling out a form stating that they had “attempted” to farm, and have a family member vouch for that assertion.

The U.S. government would then send a $50,000 check to these “farmers.”

In 2007 Barack Obama single-handedly ignored the checks and balances of our system of government, and overturned the work of our judicial branch and a Clinton-appointed judge.

Obama from today....

"We should also extend unemployment insurance for workers that lost their jobs through no fault of their own," Obama said. "I should mention that is not only the right thing to do, but the smart thing to do," he added. "If millions of Americans who aren't getting unemployment benefits stop spending money that slows down businesses, that slows down hiring, it slows down our recovery," Obama said.

Stopping unemployment benefits slows down hiring?

HUD-Funded Housing Projects Wasted Money on Belly Dancers, Sex Offenders and Dead Residents

A joint investigation by ABC News and the Center for Public Integrity found that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has struggled to combat theft, corruption, and mismanagement in the more than 3,000 public housing agencies nationwide it funds, and particularly inside the 172 that HUD considers the most troubled.

The problems are widespread, from an executive in New Orleans convicted of embezzling more than $900,000 in housing money around the time he bought a lavish Florida mansion to federal funds wrongly being spent to provide housing for sex offenders or to pay vouchers to residents long since dead.

Despite red flags from its own internal watchdog, HUD has continued to plow fresh federal dollars into these troubled agencies, including $218 million in stimulus funds since 2009, the joint investigation found.
