Republican failures?

Republicans and their policies are nothing, if not consistent - consistent failures. The frequency with which Republicans and their political vision, i.e. policies fail is stunning. It is almost as though they take a certain pride in being complete failures. But that isn't it. Republicans just don't care whether or not their ideology is viable and leads to successful outcomes. Results don't matter to Republicans, only their ideology matters.

This isn't rocket science. Take a look around America. See any Republican policy successes? There aren't any!

How did their tax-cuts for the rich and reduce the deficit policy work? In terms of doing exactly what the critics said it would do, it has been a smashing success. On the other hand, in terms of doing what the Republicans claimed cutting taxes on EXXON Oil and the Hilton Family would do - HUGE failure! George W. Bush and Republicans controlled every branch of government for four years and by the time their reign of horror ended; their tax-cut scheme had nearly doubled the national debt.

"Tax-cut our way to balanced budgets" is THE crown jewel of Conservative Republican ideology. And, a smashing failure!

The extremist Republicans and their radical evangelical crowd -- those currently occupying the White House and filling the GOP's Congressional ranks -- have touted their "abstinence only" sex education program as a means of reducing teen sex, teen pregnancy and teen abortion. Mister Bush and the Republicans have made this "abstinence only" in lieu of real sex education, the cornerstone of their plan to socially reengineer American society. How's it working?

Well, Republicans allocated $200 million per-year on this "abstinence only" program and studies have found it to be about as successful as not teaching teenagers anything at all. Seriously, kids that have received the "abstinence only" um...education, were just as likely to have sex and to have it at the same age as those who did not have the course. Like their cut-taxes-reduce-the-deficit scheme, the Republican "abstinence only" program is a complete failure, too!

The really interesting part, however, was the Bush administration and Republican response to the study. They insisted that the program not be judged on the basis of having wasted $200 million to have each child properly indoctrinated...rather, they say, American taxpayers need to spend even more money teaching the kids again and again, a program that is a proven failure.

How is that Republican drug war coming along? They've been tossing billions upon billions of dollars down the drug war rat hole since the 1970's. Surely, they must be, after nearly 40 years, on the verge of victory, right? Not! There is more drug-related crime now, than ever before; there are more drugs in America now, than ever before; and they're spending more money on the drug war now, than ever before. And, of course, it is one huge and resounding failure!

Hey, how about that Republican "get tough on crime" platform. That's working well, right? They did away with attempting to rehabilitate people...just pitch 'em in cages, treat 'em like animals and see if they don't become better humans. Well, they've managed to round-up all the petty drug users and small-time dealers...oh, and they've incarcerated the three-time-loser peddle bike thieves, too. Violent and drug-related crimes, however, are all continuing to increase.

Prison populations are swelling, the cost of housing inmates far exceeds the cost of an education (so Republicans cut funds to schools to pay for more prisons) and America now leads all industrialized nations in the size, rate, and proportion of the population locked behind bars. And crime continues to increase...hmmm...just another GOP "success" story.

Republicans and their policies are nothing, if not consistent - consistent failures. But that's the difference between Progressives and Conservatives: Conservative Republicans don't care that their policies are failures - all that matters is their ideology.

Just finished rereading "the Price of Loyalty" by Paul O'neal...Bush's first treasury secretary. When he announced his 2001 tax cuts (I got $300), O'Neal and Alan Greenspan suggested implementing "triggers" that would halt further tax cuts if the deficit went up. Of course, Cheney told them "'Reagan proved that deficits don't matter". But did Reagan really do that? Seemed that Reagan was a bit concerned about the deficit towards the end of his term, and his successor, our fearless leaders daddy, lost his bid for a second term for breaking his "no new taxes" pledge. Why'd he have to break the pledge? The deficit mattered. But we're just pawning off our lives today on our kids and their kids. Who cares....we'll be dead then anyways. Now...let's cut more taxes and attack Iran.
