According to the April 12 WSJ

"Fidelity Investments also has become the largest shareholder in AMR Corp., nearly doubling its stake in the first quarter to hold 24.1 million shares, or a 12.9% stake, as of March 31"

The same article also revealed this tidbit:

"Fidelity Investments....bought just over 12 million shares last month for a 13% stake in UAL Corp as of March 31, leapfroggingthe PBGC as the largest UAL shareholder"

Here comes our national flag-carrier!

(fade to Glenn Tilton & Jake Brace riding off into the sunset with their stock options, whereupon Leo Mullin greets them with a hearty "well done sirs!" and they join Frank Lorenzo and Carl Icahn around the campfire at the annual Conquistadores del Sol gathering...)

Unless they've divested some of their holdings, Fidelity is also one of the larger (but not the largest) shareholders of US Airways - somewhere around a 10% stake.

Could perhaps the Fidelity Select- Air Transportation Fund have anything to do this. Maybe its not a conspiracy, but a mutual fund that primarily buys airline stocks? Since these airline stocks have gone up over the last couple of months, more people have invested in the fund, thus the fund buys more stock. HMMMMMMM.......

Man. Only 3 posts and you have to use logic to ruin a perfectly good conspiracy theory. You are soooo off my christmas list.

No, you're mistaken. I heard that Frank Lorenzo has formed an investment company with Satan and that their firm is actually the largest shareholder.
