They are taking advantage of laws that they disagree with "in principle"

When I ask how that works, the answer is "that's different"

Bottom line, folks, especially on the right, but all of them generally, are against big government, government regulation, government programs, government subsidies, and government intervention until or unless it is for something that they"like".

Ask everyone yuh know about tax credits for renewable energy, and then ask them about their home mortgage interest deduction.
 
If the fed creates sick pay, I hope they give some latitude for employers.
If enacted the way Kommiefornia did, you might as well call it 'personal time off' instead of sick. The way they worded it ties the employers hands.

As long as everyone gets a prescribed amount of time off for purposes they control, I'd think they're in compliance with the intent of the law.

I wish more employers would go with a combined sick/vacation bank instead of trying to maintain separate banks.

Love to do that but if an employee declares he did not get sick time you have to prove it.
Same as vacation, if you can't prove it the DOL will place mucho fines to the employer.

No, I took a voluntary separation package with full benefits for something like 15 weeks.
 
And, due to my excellent journeymen mechanic attributes, secured gainful employment on week 16.

I think you're over-complicating it. If the employer can prove they provide the employee with paid time off without restrictions, then they've met the mandate.

It's pretty clear that paid time is provided for use in case of vacation, illness, and other situations where the employee might require time away from work i.e. school conferences, doctors appointments, etc.

But California DOL trumps Fed.
Been jammed by this before and it isn't pretty.
You can be 100% compliant with the fed, but get jammed by Kommiefornia DOL.
 
To make matters more interesting, the CA DOL doesn't want to spend resources ensuring compliance of 'Da Law' so they gave it to the 'private lawyers' to enforce.
Yea, another progressive boon doggle.
Kommiefornia law is specific and requires strict adherence.
Go the 'that doesn't make sense' an not in compliance will make you loose your business.
