Yes why have the government not addressed the rampant fraud issue after all these years? Because its not their money, its the taxpayers. Does that make it any more clearer for you?

They want to expand healthcare entitlement, but can't prove they can run it efficiently with the existing programs.

That's a lot of verbiage when a simple yes or no would have sufficed.

It's not Medicare that is defrauding itself....it's doctors and hospitals looking for an easy buck. Seems to me if they hired a few auditors to investigate this fraud (and punish the doctors and hospitals committing it) then your biggest problem has just been solved. Would your father or grandfather want to give up their Medicare? Are you willing to help cover their medical expenses?

I guess that the new outcry from the right would be that the government is "putting doctors out of business" by cracking down on fraud when "socialized medicine" is implemented.

The right wing is wonderful...and it's good to see so many posting on an airline message board...an industry that is only living by the conservative credo...unions are evil...pensions are a drain on the bottom line and should be dumped (except for the executive levels)...we should all be responsible for our OWN retirement and health care...labor is the first place to look for cost savings. The industry that this board is devoted to exemplifies life in a conservative America. Is that what you REALLY want?

That is what is precisely trying to be done here. The reduction in Medicare expenditures in the reform package is going to come from cracking down on this waste. Yet you and your ilk continue to tell the recipients of Medicare that the reduction is coming directly from their coverage (,lets scare Grandma and we can kill this thing). That is false, yet you continue to parrot it.

As usual Techiboy, you really have no idea what the argument is. Medicare has been unable to police the inherent loopholes. With very little oversight, those who want to exploit the system find it very easy to do so. Versus a private insurance company, any type of loss hurts the bottom line so there are incentives to battle it. Medicare like any other government run program has no incentive to curb loss as the taxpayers will always be the backstop. Thats what happens when you have politicians dictate business policies. Medicare fraud, Welfare fraud, look at all the gov entitlement programs and look at the inherent fraud due to loopholes. Lack of oversight and enforcement with endless supply of taxpayer money.

And you wonder why people are skeptical?

Obama put only $200 million to fight fraud as part of its stimulus package. What does that tell you? You think thats a high priority?

You were born with nothing and you will die with nothing. Everything in between that you think is owed to you will be at the expense of someone who worked for it. I chose to start my own business years ago and nobody gave me squat. I didnt ask for handouts and live off gov entitlements. Never have, never will. Man up.

Oh...I don't work in the industry...I just follow it. I like my current job just fine, thank you. But...since I do follow the airline industry, I guess I should point out one thing...if the government screws up everything it touches, then how come every airline made a profit...right up until we let the 'free market' run the industry and the government bowed out?

Yes I pay 100%. Always have. And its not that great of a plan. Do you know why? Because the government doesn't allow other insurances companies to sell across state lines. So we are stuck with an average insurer. If i could get a better plan I would. But i cant.
