What the bleep...I would have said..."Excuse me Ma'am...I am here for your S A F E T Y not your trash so please call me a S A F E T Y P R O F E S S I O N A L while you go ahead and put your trash where it belongs". (Sarcasm)

Damn...I have more respect for everyone than that Mother with the kid who should KNOW better.

I'm sure you realize that it was just "child speak" to describe the task you were performing and not a slight on you. On that same flight you could have been the "Duty Free Lady," the "Ice Cream Lady," etc. It is very much a British idiom.

Unfortunately, that's the attitude people have towards many people in service industries these days. They have no consideration for those employees. I used to work in retail, and so many people would leave nasty messes for us to clean up, such as:

-Just walking away after their kids throw up
-Leaving dirty diapers in shopping carts
-Spilling a soda on the floor and just walking away (and other people would just push their carts through the mess before someone had a chance to clean it up)
-Leaving shopping carts scattered by the checkout lanes, even though they walk right by the cartwell on their way out of the store.

And the list goes on and on . .

It sure does and this generation of Mom's and Dad's- especially MOM"S who perpetuate this and are raising a generation of selfish, over-indulged, spolied brats. They have no respect and pass this on to their children. Unfortunately it exist everywhere you go in the US. Sad and pathetic, but true.
I think you did the right thing- you ignored her ignorant remark. Believe me if something went wrong with her precious child you would be the first one she would call to help. Be proud of who and what you are. And for god sakes PLEASE dont use that stupid line - " I am a safety professional". I've always hated that whiny pathetic line. You are a trained professional who serves the flying public. Service is a global term that truly applies to what cabin crew members do. Safety and Service. Be proud and stay above them - never doubt how valuable you are. Safe flying and thanks for caring so much! Peace

of course in the old days, i would have asked her to clarify 'White Trash, or Green Trash'? Back when we had two different colored bags and when we would seperate the cans from the 'trash'...
sorry, i couldn't resist

hey. i had a lady call me "cabin boy" once. she was cute so i let it slide.

When we walk around with a trash bag or are pushing a trash cart, what else are we? If you laugh or chuckle at the statement you have the right attitude and mentality for dealing with people.

Okay, as a mother of a small child, do you really think that my three year old is going to understand when I tell him "here comes the safety lady..." ? He doesn't care, and it doesn't get his sticky grip off the can I'm trying to get from him. Maybe the remark was a tad bit insulting to you, but I think you're reading too much into it....you would have been equally as insulted if the mother had allowed her child to retain his beverage until landing because it's so unsafe for YOU to have to get up and get it two seconds before wheels down because she didn't listen the first ten times you came through.

She was getting her child to comply with your request and, I'm sorry, but to a three-year- old , at that instant in time, you are the trash lady, even though it doesnt define you, it does to him in the three seconds that he's going to see you for. And never remember probably.

I would understand if this was someone to their husband or friend, but a child?

Don't let what an infant might possibly think about you ruin your day. SO not worth it. I guarantee you neither one of them will think of you again once their off that plane unless you were either super nice or a bword.

Wanting to use the FA's jumpseat to change their precious little darling's diaper....

It never ceases to amaze me how rediculous people can be. I can't imagine the stories you guys have. Just being a passenger I have seen some really funny and stupid things. One day, this moron got on the plane holding a coffee, and he gave it to the flight attendant when he was getting on and said, "can you heat this up for me - bring it back to me after you warm it up". How ignorant can people be?

Here is a goodie for you then....

PHX-SNA, circa 2003. Two parents, who fit the entire profile for what you would think of SNA pax, put their infants car seat in the middle seat. and are seated on either side of their precious. As I am doing the final cabin check just before takeoff (in other words, during taxi) I see this and immediately inform the flight deck of the problem and we pull over and stop at which point I start to have the passengers re-seat the infant in the window, and they take the middle and aisle. Well, they are very upset that I would do what I did, being quite polite I might add, and when they go to move the carseat I see them pull it straight up without unfastening any seatbelt. I asked them, somewhat astonished, what they thought was keeping their child from becoming part of the overhead panel. Their response was "gravity".

No, I am not making this up.....

Good grief. What happened to your sense of humor? Did you leave it on the other thread????
I mean really; talk about taking your self (job) a tad too seriously. . . Working for an airline, unless you are a pilot or mechanic is not a career, it's a job.

If you get bent out of shape because a child called you a "trash lady" sounds like the ole self esteem is suffering.
