Yes, the DHS was rolled out under Bush. But only TSA was new -- all the other agencies within DHS already existed. They just weren't coordinating with each other. In that regard, it made sense to have border patrol, Customs, and Immigration all within the same agency. When INS & Customs were separate, they didn't always play nice with each other. Much different story today.

Yes. I agree but their collective budgets ballooned . I think the numbers in the article were 8 billion for TSA and "3,108 billion" for DHS since 9/11. Not sure why not just say 3.1trillion. We are not getting our moneys worth and these employees get full pensions which i have heard argued on these boards are unsustainable. And now the argument is Ill retire poor because ss will fail and die a miserable death because I wont have medicare? That is offensive.
