What's new

Here we grow again!!! Just the beginning of growth and expansion in 2026 for SWA

So from what I can gather searching through webpages you’ve grown by around 500 in the last 5 years? 2700 to 3200.

I’d call that respectable growth considering the size of your group.

DOL LM2 Search is down and who knows if it will come back so I had to rely on other methods for information.

These numbers will grow once the final ruling comes in from the Alaska/Hawaiian merger/purchase after the two groups of mechanics and related are done and certified.
They had until today to get the lists organized and submitted to be verified and certified.

IAM Door Knocking
August 27, 2025 -- We have received reports of alarm and consternation from our Alaska members that IAM agents have, yet again, been knocking at their doors and pressing them to sign authorization cards.

I’m not involved or really interested in disputes between AMFA and the IAM. That’s between those two.

I will say I’m not a fan of the IAM’s 141 unit as far as organizing.

A few years back they had a forceful push (harassing) to organize the JetBlue Ramp. Their push (harassing) got them the cards they needed to have an election. 🗳️ They wound up getting absolutely slaughtered in that vote and couldn’t try again for another year and a half. In other words though that group seriously rejected 🙅‍♂️ IAM representation.

BUT the IAM held on to their exclusivity to try which is a honor agreement through the AFL/CIO where no one else who’s a member is supposed to try to gain representation if a Union doesn’t want to back off.

The IAM DID NOT and WON’T go away. The TWU already represents the Flight Attendants at JetBlue and I’ve personally heard from Rampers in FLL that they want TWU and wish the IAM would go away.

They put organizers back in front of the Airport almost immediately after the year and a half restriction and no one talked to them. It was ridiculous to see.

IAM 142 (Not 141) is who AMFA is in dispute with at Alaska and Hawaii though.

I’m TWU.

Yes. I was just letting you know that the AMFA numbers will increase when they add in the Hawaiian guys to the list after the final ruling comes thru on the merger.
Last I heard on the JB guys, they are hard core against getting unionized, however they were doing a grass roots card drive with AMFA and I believe they had the number of signers until the NMB rules against MC class and craft. With that said not sure where they are at JB with AMFA as of now. Have you heard anything on it? I know you prob don't follow, just curious if you've heard anything about it.

You do remember I’m not an AMFA fan right? TWU was also being shown some interest as well. Now don’t get rude on that comment though and we can continue.

Outside the Pilots and Flight Attendants I’m not seeing any other groups, Mechanics, Ramp, CSA showing any cohesive interest in picking a Union. And I’m right there at ground zero to gauge their interests.

I’m afraid this is going to be another one of those stories where they learn too late. When something happens to them they’ll be left scrambling.

I know you are not. Weez, the reason I pointed out the AMFA numbers will increase was because you took the time to do a little research and posted that AMFA did have a respectable increase in membership numbers after picking up several new airlines to represent and after I posted that SWA has been hiring non-stop since 2020 each and every year and still is. I was just simply adding to your posting of the growth numbers at AMFA and that the numbers you posted will again increase just as soon as the Alaska/Hawaiian final cert. for single carrier is approved and comes thru here very soon.

And I agree with you on the fact that they going to learn way too late, after something happens, and yes they will be left scrambling and asking, why didn't we vote to go union? Any union, yes, but of course a Mechanic Class and Craft would be best overall just like the Class and Craft most all Pilots unions are.

When AMFA is growing organically by picking up the non organized I have no reason to bash them. Every Union has a right to a “fair” shot at representation. Fair game in other words. It’s the raiding (Call it what you want) that pisses me off. It’s rude, undignified and in honorable. Not to mention unnecessary unless greed is the only compass being followed.

And the NMB rule book give/gave AMFA the upper hand in that merger to keep representing the entire Class. IAM of course having the right to try and keep the groups as well. Highly unlikely only because of the numbers that they will be successful though.

And no in my personal opinion a catchall Union that agrees with solidarity for all is absolutely the better option. I support my highly professional AMT’s and Related at AA and that’s why at this time they are the highest paid in the industry which includes both wages, benefits and most importantly tons and tons of job opportunities.

Curious? Have you ever actually read the TWU AMT Contract at AA and placed it side by side with your own? Did you agree with the signing of your last agreement containing LOA # 1 which included the ability for SWA Management to outsource even more of what should be your work than is already outsourced?

You’ve gone out of your way to ignore me in the past with those questions but since you and I seem to be the last still standing Airline Workers left on Forums you really don’t need to ignore me any more.
